This is the compact version of a Bali honeymoon. Everything sits in the south except one morning east, the hotel never changes, and the longest transfer is under two hours. If you have five days rather than a week, that trade is the right one: you spend them on the island rather than on the road.

What the five days cover

You base in Jimbaran the whole time. Day two is the coast, water sports in the morning at Tanjung Benoa and the Uluwatu cliffs at sunset, both within half an hour of the hotel. Day three goes inland to the Tegallalang rice country for a swing and an ATV ride. Day four is the only early start, east into Karangasem for Lempuyang. Day five you fly.

When to go

The dry season runs May to October, the wet season November to April, which is the Indonesian meteorological agency's split. July to September is driest and January the wettest month of the year. Wet season rain usually arrives as a heavy afternoon burst rather than all day drizzle.

One seasonal detail matters here because you are staying on the beach. Jimbaran and neighbouring Kedonganan are among the beaches worst affected by monsoon ocean trash, which washes in from late December to early February. Outside those weeks the bay is clean and calm. Inside them, expect the beach to be worked on each morning.

Also check March before booking: Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence, falls on 8 March 2027, when the whole island stops for twenty four hours and Ngurah Rai airport closes completely.

Before you fly: visa, arrival form and levy

Nepali passport holders cannot use Indonesia's visa on arrival, because Nepal is not on that list. You apply in advance for a single entry visit visa for tourism at the official portal, evisa.imigrasi.go.id. The passport must be valid more than six months beyond arrival, and the application asks for a photograph, a return ticket, accommodation details and evidence of sufficient funds. Approval comes by email as a PDF. Gomayu handles it.

Since 1 September 2025 every international arrival also completes one digital declaration on the All Indonesia platform, which replaced the separate arrival card, customs form and health form. Free, and doing it up to seventy two hours ahead is what lets you use the automatic gates.

Then the Bali Tourist Levy, a provincial charge on every foreign visitor including children, paid before arrival at lovebali.baliprov.go.id or through the Love Bali app. Only the .go.id address is official, and spot checks at attractions tightened through 2026.

Staying in Jimbaran

Jimbaran is the closest good base to the airport, fifteen to thirty minutes depending on traffic, which is why the first evening works at all. The bay is long, calm and one of the safest places to swim in south Bali, and the area is resort led and quiet rather than a nightlife strip. For a honeymoon that is the point; if you want Seminyak style bars, this is the wrong base and we can move you.

Two honest caveats. Hotels at the northern end can catch aircraft approach noise on some wind days, so ask us about the specific property rather than the area. And the beach is busy with restaurant tables and sunbeds in the evening, with touts working the sand.

The ATV day, and the tandem question

The swing and the ATV are the fun of day three and both need a word of caution, because neither has a dedicated regulator in Bali and standards between operators are not comparable.

On the swing, use a named operator and insist on a full body harness with chest and leg straps rather than a lap belt. Note that "Bali jungle swing" is a category, not a company; several businesses in the Tegallalang area run them at very different standards.

On the ATV, the important part is the tandem machine that gets marketed to couples. A single rider ATV must never carry a passenger. The wheelbase is short, there are no passenger footrests or grab points, the extra weight raises rollover risk, and the passenger cannot help with the weight shifts the machine needs. Only a purpose built two seater is safe for two people, and Bali operators often do not distinguish. Ask which machine you are getting. If it is a one seater, ride one each.

Serious injuries on Bali ATV tours are documented, including a rider who hit a tree on a descent and another who went into a ravine where staff had no first aid equipment. Wear the helmet, ride within yourself, and take the briefing seriously.

One more thing worth checking before you leave home: most travel insurance policies exclude quad biking as standard. Very few cover it without an adventure sports add on, and riding a one seater tandem can void cover on its own. If the ATV matters to you, buy the add on.

Lempuyang, and the photograph everyone gets wrong

There is no lake beneath the Gates of Heaven. The reflection in every photograph is made by a photographer holding a small mirror under the phone lens. What is real is Mount Agung, framed dead centre between the gates, and it is most reliably clear at dawn, which is why day four starts early.

Practically: private vehicles can no longer reach the temple entrance, so you park at the main terminal and take a shuttle for the last stretch. You take a numbered queue ticket and wait your turn, commonly one to three hours by mid morning. Sarong and sash are required. And the gate is the outer entrance of the lowest of Lempuyang's seven temples; the summit temple is a pilgrimage climb of around seventeen hundred steps, not a photo stop.

Uluwatu, the Kecak dance and the monkeys

The Kecak fire dance runs in two sessions, around 18:00 and 19:00, in an open air amphitheatre on the cliff inside the temple complex but outside the inner sacred courtyard. It is ticketed separately from temple entry, sells out in peak season, and is booked ahead rather than bought at the gate. Sarong and sash are provided free. Bring cash, because the temple gate and car park do not take cards.

The macaques there are not a photo opportunity. They take phones, glasses and anything shiny and hold them for a food ransom. Hand loose items to your guide before walking in. Rabies cases rose through 2025 and 2026, so do not touch monkeys or stray dogs, and treat any bite or scratch as needing immediate medical attention.

Jimbaran seafood, and the bill

The grilled seafood on the sand is genuine and long established. The trap is how it is priced: by weight, often quoted per hundred grams, which makes the number look far smaller than the eventual bill, with tax and service added on top.

Three things prevent a bad evening. Ask for the written price list before ordering. Have the fish weighed in front of you. Agree the total in rupiah, in writing, before it goes on the grill. One more, since this is a dinner with drinks: buy only sealed, branded alcohol at licensed venues and avoid home made arak and cheap cocktails, because methanol poisoning in Bali has killed and seriously harmed foreign visitors.

Money, connectivity and practical basics

The currency is the Indonesian rupiah. Cards work in hotels, malls and larger restaurants, but carry cash for markets, small warungs, temple entries and donations. Decline every offer to be billed in your home currency, and change money only at licensed counters displaying a Bank Indonesia licence number.

Buy a tourist SIM or eSIM on arrival; passport registration is mandatory and SIMs are sold inactive until that check clears. Tap water is not drinkable anywhere in Bali, though ice in established restaurants is commercially made and fine.

Who this trip suits

Couples with five days who want the highlights without a transfer heavy week, and who are up for one adventurous day.
