Written and checked by the Gomayu travel desk, Kathmandu·About this guide
For a first trip abroad, Singapore and Malaysia is the easiest pairing: the two cities are close, the border is crossed by road, and the sightseeing is simple to follow. If you want beaches as well, Thailand with Singapore and Malaysia adds Bangkok and Phuket. Thailand and Vietnam suits travellers who prefer island time in Phu Quoc, while the Maldives and Sri Lanka combines a beach stay with temples and hill country.
Plan about seven or eight days for two countries and ten or eleven days for three. Each change of country uses most of a day for checkout, the border or airport, and check-in, so fewer than two nights in one place feels rushed. Elders and young children usually do better with three nights per stop. Tell us your total days and we will suggest how to split them between countries.
International flights are quoted separately from the land package, so you see each part clearly. The usual plan is to fly into the first country and home from the last, so you never backtrack. Legs between countries, such as Bangkok to Singapore or Malé to Colombo, are flights, while Singapore to Kuala Lumpur is usually done by road. Gomayu can book all the tickets with the tour if you wish.
Visa steps depend on each country and on the passport you hold, so the paperwork is handled country by country. Gomayu’s visa team can manage the applications for the whole group and tell you which documents to prepare. Start at least a few weeks before departure, and earlier for Dashain, Tihar and school holidays, when demand is highest. Travellers on non-Nepali passports should tell us when they enquire.
Yes, if the route is gentle. Choose fewer stops, longer stays and a trip with one or two transfer days rather than three. Border days by coach and early flights are the most tiring parts, and some sights have long staircases, such as the 272 steps at Batu Caves near Kuala Lumpur. The Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia Family Tour is built around theme parks and suits families with school-age children.
Send your travel dates, the number of travellers with their ages, the hotel level you want, and whether everyone flies from Kathmandu or some join from abroad. Mention the countries or sights you must include, any mobility needs, food preferences and the passport each person holds. With that, our Kathmandu team can suggest the right package or adjust one, and give you a price for your group size.
