It's built around a slower pace, well-known teahouse culture, and, most of all, direct access to giant pandas in a setting designed around their care and breeding. This 5-day itinerary keeps the pace unhurried, with only one major activity most days, matching Chengdu's reputation as one of China's more laid-back major cities.
Arriving in Chengdu
Chengdu Tianfu International Airport serves as the arrival and departure point. Staying near Chunxi Road or Jinli puts travelers close to Jinli Ancient Street, a reconstructed traditional street lined with snack stalls and teahouses, an easy and low-effort way to spend a first evening after travel.
The Giant Panda Breeding Research Base
Day 2 is built around Chengdu's signature attraction. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is timed for an opening-hour arrival specifically because pandas are most active and visibly feeding in the morning, before the midday heat typically sends them into a quieter, more inactive state. The visit covers both the adult enclosures and the nursery area where cubs are kept, giving a fuller picture of the base's breeding program beyond a single enclosure visit.
