December through April offers the best overall conditions for this itinerary, combining calmer seas for Mirissa whale watching (which runs roughly November through April) with clearer hill-country weather for the Ella and Nuwara Eliya legs. Outside this window, both the whale-watching season and hill-country visibility become less reliable.

Warm layers are essential for Nuwara Eliya and the early-morning Little Adam's Peak hike, given how cold the hill country turns after dark and before sunrise, in contrast to the rest of the trip's warm, humid climate.
