Do Nepali citizens need a visa for Japan?

Yes. Nepali passport holders need a visa in advance to visit Japan. • One recent photo, 45mm by 35mm, full face looking straight ahead, on a white or light background, taken within the last 6 months, with no spectacles, contact lenses or cap.
• PAN card with an official English translation.
• A bank statement for the last 6 months showing sufficient funds, carrying the official bank stamp and signature.
• A certificate of income or tax payment issued by a public agency, in original.
• Confirmed or provisional return flight tickets showing your entry and departure dates from Japan.
• Confirmed hotel bookings covering your full stay.
• A detailed schedule of stay, sometimes called the travel itinerary, that matches your flight tickets and hotel bookings and covers the planned dates of your visit.
• An employer letter, such as a job letter, no-objection letter or salary letter, confirming your designation, approved leave and your return to your position after travel. Self-employed applicants provide a company registration certificate and a tax clearance certificate, both with English translation.

The schedule of stay is a document requirement, not a promise you are locked into. It shows the consulate that your trip is planned and self-funded. Keep it realistic and aligned with the hotels and flights you have booked.

Student applicants

Students do not need the employer letters, company registration or tax clearance documents. Instead, submit a school or college enrollment letter that confirms your student status and the leave approved for your trip. How to apply for a Japan visa through JVAC

You apply for a Japan visa in Kathmandu through the Japan Visa Application Centre operated by VFS Global, which collects documents on behalf of the Embassy of Japan. Japan does not offer a full online e-visa for Nepali tourists, so an in-person submission is required. The usual flow is straightforward once your papers are ready.
