Why Manila and Boracay Together

Manila and Boracay cover two very different sides of a Philippines trip: Manila's colonial history and modern city energy, and Boracay's beach and island scenery. Since Boracay isn't directly reachable by international flight, most itineraries route through Manila anyway, making a combined trip a natural way to see both without adding much extra travel time.

Getting to Boracay

Boracay itself has no airport large enough for most commercial flights. Travelers instead fly into Caticlan Airport (or occasionally Kalibo, a longer transfer) on the neighboring island of Panay, then take a short ferry crossing, typically 10 to 15 minutes, across the Tabon Strait to reach Boracay. This two-leg journey adds a bit of time compared to a direct beach flight, but it's a well established route and generally runs smoothly outside of stormy weather.

White Beach and Island Hopping

White Beach is Boracay's main draw, a roughly 4 kilometer stretch of fine white sand that has repeatedly ranked among the world's best beaches in international travel awards. The island hopping tour typically departs by traditional outrigger boat (bangka) and covers Crocodile Island, named for a rock formation resembling a resting crocodile rather than any actual crocodiles, known for its coral and marine life just below the surface. Puka Shell Beach, on the island's northern tip, has a coarser, shell-flecked sand distinct from White Beach's powdery texture, and tends to be quieter and less crowded.

The Free Day in Boracay

With a full free day built in, Boracay offers a wide range of optional activities beyond lounging on the beach. An ATV ride to Bat Cave takes visitors along Boracay's hillier interior to a cave home to a resident bat colony. Helmet diving is a beginner-friendly underwater activity using a weighted helmet that allows walking along the seabed without needing to swim or dive certification. Parasailing offers aerial views of the island's coastline, and a sunset sailing cruise is a popular, more relaxed way to close out the day on the water.

Manila: History and Modern Life

Back in Manila, the city tour covers Intramuros, the historic Spanish colonial walled city, alongside San Agustin Church, completed in 1607 and part of the Baroque Churches of the Philippines UNESCO World Heritage listing as the country's oldest stone church. Manila Cathedral, within the same district, has been rebuilt several times after fires, earthquakes, and wartime destruction, with the current structure dating to the 1950s and 1970s. Binondo, established in 1594 and considered the world's oldest Chinatown, offers some of Manila's best known Chinese-Filipino street food, a good stop for trying local specialties like siopao or fresh lumpia.

The Final Days: Shopping and a Farewell Dinner

The trip's closing days shift toward a lighter pace, with a Venice Grand Canal Mall gondola ride in McKinley Hill offering a novelty photo stop before free shopping time at SM Mall of Asia or Greenbelt. The farewell dinner at a rooftop restaurant with Manila Bay views is a fitting way to close a trip that's covered both island scenery and city history, with Manila Bay's sunsets often cited as among the most striking in Southeast Asia.

Philippines Visa for Nepali Citizens

Visa requirements for the Philippines can vary by nationality and should be confirmed directly ahead of booking, since rules and eligible entry methods do change periodically. Nepali passport holders should check current requirements, including whether a visa on arrival, e-visa, or advance application applies, well ahead of the trip.
