Two Very Different Sides of the Central Visayas

Cebu and Bohol sit close enough together, connected by a fast ferry of roughly two hours, that combining them into one trip makes practical sense while still delivering genuinely distinct experiences. Cebu's leg of this itinerary leans heavily into water and canyon adventure, while Bohol shifts to a gentler pace built around its well-known countryside landmarks and a relaxed beach stay on Panglao.

Arriving in Cebu

Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) serves as both the arrival and departure point. With Day 1 left unscheduled, travelers can settle into a Cebu City hotel and make use of the city's well-regarded food scene, known especially for lechon, before the more active days ahead.

Cebu City and Moalboal

Day 2 opens with a compact Cebu City heritage stop, covering Magellan's Cross, the Basilica del Santo Niño, and Fort San Pedro, before the drive south to Moalboal. Days 3 and 4 are dedicated to Moalboal's signature experiences: the sardine run, reachable by simply swimming out from the beach, a boat trip to Pescador Island for its coral drop-off, and Kawasan Falls canyoneering, trekking down through a series of jumps and swims between limestone canyon walls to the tiered waterfall below. These three days are physically active and make up the itinerary's adventure-focused core.

Crossing to Bohol

Day 5 covers the return to Cebu City and the fast ferry crossing to Tagbilaran, Bohol's main port town, followed by a transfer to Panglao, an island connected to mainland Bohol by a short bridge and home to Alona Beach, one of the region's most popular beach strips. The shift in pace from Moalboal's active water days to Panglao's beachfront resort setting gives the trip's second half a noticeably more relaxed rhythm.

Bohol's Countryside Landmarks

Day 6 covers Bohol's most iconic sights in a single day. The Chocolate Hills, a formation of over a thousand cone-shaped hills that turn brown in the dry season (hence the name), are best appreciated from the elevated viewing deck. The tarsier sanctuary offers a close but carefully managed look at the Philippine tarsier, one of the world's smallest primates, with strict no-flash-photography and quiet-voice rules in place to protect the animals' sensitivity to noise and light. The Loboc River lunch cruise closes the day with a relaxed float past riverside villages and a stop at the man-made mahogany forest on the return drive.

A Free Day on Panglao

Day 7 is left entirely open, with Alona Beach, a massage, or the resort pool offered as the default, low-effort options. For travelers wanting more activity, the Balicasag Island trip offers a chance to see sea turtles and a well-regarded coral wall dive site, available as a local add-on rather than a fixed part of the itinerary.

Returning to Cebu and Getting Home

Day 8 covers the return ferry to Cebu City, with the afternoon left free for last-minute shopping before Day 9's departure, giving the trip an easy final stretch rather than an abrupt finish straight off the ferry.

Best Time to Visit

December through May offers the Philippines' driest season, calmer ferry crossings between Cebu and Bohol, and clearer water conditions for the Moalboal and Balicasag activities in particular. The wetter months from June through November can bring rougher seas that occasionally affect ferry schedules, along with reduced visibility for snorkeling and diving.

Practical Notes for Nepali Travelers

Philippine Peso (PHP) is the local currency, with exchange counters available in both Cebu City and Panglao. Since this itinerary involves a ferry crossing partway through, packing a smaller bag for the Bohol leg, separate from anything left in storage, can make the transition smoother if hotels allow it. Reasonable swimming ability matters for the Moalboal days in particular, and quick-dry clothing is worth packing given how much of the first half of the trip involves being in and around water.
