โ€œWe had an unforgettable 5D4N trip to Bali with Gomayu Holidays! From the very beginning, the communication was smooth, clear, and professional. Everything was perfectly organized; airport pickup, hotel check-ins, and daily tours were always on time, with no stress at all. Our stay was split between a beautiful private pool villa in Seminyak and a comfortable room at Grand Mega Resort, both of which exceeded expectations. The itinerary was well-balanced with adventure, culture, and relaxation. We really enjoyed the watersports (banana boat, jet ski, parasailing), the stunning Uluwatu Temple with Kecak dance, and the romantic candlelight dinner at Jimbaran Beach. The Bali swing and tandem ATV ride were absolute highlights and so much fun! Visiting Lempuyang Temple (Gate of Heaven) was magical and very well arranged despite the crowds. We had some spare time to visit the malls and try local food as well. Special thanks to the guide and driver, who was friendly, helpful, super-flexible and always made sure we were comfortable. We didnโ€™t have to worry about anything as everything was well-organized. Highly recommended for anyone planning a hassle-free and memorable Bali trip. Thank you, Gomayu Holidays, for making our holiday truly special!โ€

Complete guide

Complete travel guide

A resort holiday in the Maldives is simple once you are there: one island, one property, nothing to organise. The complexity is all at the front, in the transfer, the taxes and the rules about what you can bring. This guide covers that part, so the trip itself can be as empty as you want it.

Beach villa and water villa: what changes

A beach villa sits on the sand with the lagoon a few steps away, usually with more space and a garden or a private stretch of beach. A water villa stands on stilts over the lagoon, with a deck and steps straight down into the water. Most people find the beach villa more comfortable to live in and the water villa the one they remember, which is exactly why this trip does both rather than choosing.

One practical note: not every water villa has good snorkelling directly beneath it, and reef quality varies by resort and by which side of the island the villa faces. If snorkelling from your own deck matters to you, tell us and we will match the resort to that.

Which resort, and why we do not name it here

The property depends on your dates, availability and the price band you choose, and it changes between departures. Naming one on this page would be out of date within a season. What is fixed is the shape of the trip: a private island resort, a beach villa, a night over the water, all inclusive meals, and transfers arranged for you. We confirm the exact resort in writing when we quote, along with the villa categories.

When to go

The dry northeast monsoon runs November to April, and that is the season for this trip: clear skies, calm lagoons and the best underwater visibility. December to March is the sweet spot and also peak pricing.

May to October is the wet southwest monsoon. Rain comes in short heavy bursts rather than all day, prices drop, and it is the better window for manta rays and whale sharks in the outer atolls. What suffers is the sea state, which matters for transfers and for anything on a boat.

Getting to the island: speedboat or seaplane

How you reach the resort depends on which atoll it sits in, and it changes how you must book your flights.

Resorts near Male are reached by speedboat, typically thirty to fifty minutes, and boats run at any hour, so a late night arrival is not a problem.

Resorts further out use a seaplane, and this is the part that catches people out. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, roughly six in the morning to half past three in the afternoon. If your international flight lands in the late afternoon or evening, you cannot fly out to the resort that day. The result is a night in Male or Hulhumale at your own cost, and a day lost. Send us your flight times before you ticket and we will tell you whether they work with the resort you want.

Two more seaplane details. The baggage allowance is lower than your international ticket, around twenty kilos checked plus five hand luggage, with excess charged by the kilo. And the seaplane runs to its own schedule rather than yours, so a wait of a couple of hours in the seaplane terminal lounge is normal rather than a failure.

Costs that sit outside the package

Worth being straight about, because every Maldives holiday has them.

The government charges a Green Tax per person per night, at a higher rate on resorts than on guesthouses, and a goods and services tax on tourism services on top of the resort bill. Both are payable in the Maldives and are additional to the package price. There are also airport departure and development fees for foreign passengers, but those are collected inside your air ticket, so nobody will ask you for them at the airport.

Beyond tax, the resort bill is where a Maldives trip actually gets expensive: drinks outside the all inclusive plan, diving, spa treatments and excursions. Ask us what the specific resort includes before you assume.

Entry, and what to file before you fly

Nepali passport holders do not need a visa in advance. The Maldives issues a free thirty day visa on arrival to every nationality. Keep your passport valid more than six months beyond arrival, and have your resort confirmation and return ticket to hand.

What is mandatory is the Traveller Declaration on the official IMUGA portal, imuga.immigration.gov.mv. It is free, it is filed within the ninety six hours before your flight, and every traveller needs their own including infants. Submitting earlier than ninety six hours makes it invalid. It is required for arrival only; the departure form was discontinued. Copycat sites charge for this, so use only the official address.

What you cannot bring

Two things are confiscated at Velana, and both surprise people.

Alcohol cannot be imported, including duty free. It is held at the airport and returned to you on departure. Resorts are licensed and serve alcohol freely, so this only matters for what you carry in.

Vapes and e-cigarettes are completely banned in the Maldives, for everyone including tourists, at any age. Import, possession and use are all prohibited. A device is confiscated at the border against a receipt and returned when you leave, but using one carries a fine. Leave it at home. Separately, since November 2025 anyone born on or after 1 January 2007 cannot buy or use tobacco in the Maldives, and that applies to visitors too.

Money, connectivity and practical basics

The rufiyaa is the local currency but resorts run entirely in US dollars, and everything is billed to the room and settled by card at checkout. Carry some small dollar notes for tipping. There is no need to change money for a resort stay.

Resorts provide wifi, usually free in villas, and a tourist SIM from the airport is worth it if you want data on the boat or the seaplane. Tap water in villas is desalinated and safe, and most resorts provide filtered drinking water. Bring reef safe sunscreen, because the ordinary kind is discouraged and some resorts will not sell it.

Small things that improve the trip

Tell the resort it is a honeymoon or an anniversary when we book rather than on arrival, because the cake, the room decoration and any credit they offer usually require notice and sometimes a marriage certificate. Ask for the villa move to happen after breakfast rather than at checkout time, so you get a full afternoon on the deck. And do the house reef on the first morning, when the light is good and before the day fills up with nothing.

Who this trip suits

Couples who want privacy and no logistics, and who would rather spend on the room than on activities. If you want to see more of the country, a night on a local island before or after the resort adds a completely different day for very little. If you want it longer, four or five nights on the island is where a Maldives trip stops feeling short.
