Singapore: Gardens and City Highlights
Gardens by the Bay is Singapore's best known modern attraction, with the Flower Dome recreating a cool, dry Mediterranean climate and the Cloud Forest built around a 35 meter indoor waterfall inside a mountain structure. Christ Church, a distinctive red building completed in 1753 during Dutch colonial rule, and the nearby Stadthuys, a former Dutch governor's residence, anchor the historic Dutch Square. Jonker Street, the heart of Malacca's Chinatown, is known for its antique shops, cafes, and a lively weekend night market. The Baba-Nyonya Peranakan quarter reflects the Peranakan culture, a blend of Chinese immigrant and local Malay traditions dating back several centuries, visible in the area's architecture, cuisine, and heritage houses.
Batu Caves
Batu Caves is a limestone hill temple complex just north of Kuala Lumpur, marked by a roughly 140 foot golden statue of Lord Murugan at the base. Genting Highlands
Genting Highlands sits at roughly 1,800 meters elevation and is reached from the KL area by the Awana SkyWay cable car, a scenic ride over rainforest to the hilltop resort. The complex's outdoor theme park closed back in 2013 and was eventually replaced by Genting SkyWorlds, which opened in 2022 with rides and attractions across several themed zones, alongside SkyAvenue, a large shopping, dining, and entertainment mall at the base of the theme park. Genting also houses Malaysia's only casino, available as an optional stop for those interested.
Getting Between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur
The coach transfer between the two cities takes roughly 5 hours, crossing the causeway or Second Link border checkpoint between Singapore and Malaysia. It's a straightforward overland option compared to booking a separate flight, and gives a look at the Malaysian countryside along the way.
