Every total below is built the same way: our land package, plus a return flight from Kathmandu, plus the Kenya eTA, the yellow fever vaccine and pocket money. Both of our Kenya tours are 7 days, land-only, in a private safari vehicle with a driver-cum-guide.

The "from" price depends on group size. Here is how it works on the Nairobi, Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru safari:

So a couple travelling alone pays NRs 25,000 more each than the headline price, because the vehicle and guide are shared by fewer people. On the Lake Naivasha tour the rates are NRs 4,49,000 for 2 travellers, NRs 4,28,000 for 3 to 6, NRs 4,05,000 for 7 to 13 and NRs 3,89,000 for 14 or more.
Why does a Kenya safari cost so much more than Thailand or Bali? Most of the package is park fees, lodges inside the reserves and a private vehicle with a guide for every day. The Maasai Mara's daily entry fee for foreign visitors is one of the largest single costs of any Kenya safari, and in our price it is already paid.
How much is a flight from Kathmandu to Nairobi?
A return economy ticket from Kathmandu to Nairobi costs about NRs 1,36,000 to 2,00,000. There is no non-stop flight; every route has at least one connection, and the journey takes about 9 to 15 hours.
- Via Sharjah: Air Arabia's own route page showed return fares from NRs 1,35,833 for November 2026 travel (seen 30 Sep 2026).
- Via Dubai: flydubai's route page showed return fares from NRs 1,78,303 for October 2026 to March 2027 travel, with a total journey time of about 14 hours 44 minutes.
- Via Doha, Istanbul or Kuala Lumpur: KAYAK also lists these connections, on airlines including Turkish Airlines, Emirates and Malaysia Airlines. Its data for the reverse route, Nairobi to Kathmandu, showed typical return fares of £522 to £977 (about NRs 1,06,500 to 1,99,400 at the Nepal Rastra Bank pound rate).
The routing matters for the yellow fever rule, explained below. Seats for Dashain and Tihar, and for the July to October migration season in the Maasai Mara, should be booked early.
How much is the Kenya eTA for Nepali passport holders?
Kenya no longer issues visas; every visitor, including Nepali passport holders, needs an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before flying. On 1 Oct 2026 the official site, etakenya.go.ke, stated that the normal eTA starts at US$30 (about NRs 4,610), with processing within about 3 business days, and that an expedited option costs an additional US$100.
- Through Gomayu: NRs 8,000 all-in, including 13% VAT. That covers the US$30 government fee and our service charge for preparing and filing the application.
- When to apply: at least 3 days before you fly, and within 90 days of travel; the eTA is valid for a single entry.
- Documents: passport valid 6 months with a blank page, a photo, a confirmed return ticket, hotel or lodge bookings and your itinerary. Proof of funds is advisable; it is not a cost.
- Every traveller needs their own eTA, including children. There is no child rate.

Do you need a yellow fever vaccine for Kenya from Nepal?
Yes, plan on it. Kenya is a yellow fever risk country, and Nepal requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate from travellers aged 9 months and over who arrive from a risk country (WHO country requirements, as listed by the UK's NaTHNaC). So the certificate matters most on the way home to Kathmandu. India can also isolate passengers without one, which matters if you connect through Mumbai.
- For entering Kenya: needed only if you arrive from or transit a risk country. A Kathmandu to Doha or Dubai to Nairobi routing does not trigger it; a connection through Addis Ababa does.
- Timing: get the vaccine at least 10 days before you fly. One dose is valid for life.
- Where in Kathmandu: supply is unreliable. A National Public Health Laboratory notice from Poush 2080 said its yellow fever vaccine service had stopped until new stock arrived. Private travel clinics list the STAMARIL vaccine; one lists it at NRs 7,000 a dose but showed it out of stock in September 2026. Call ahead, and start this step as soon as you book.
How much pocket money do you need per day in Kenya?
Plan on US$24 to 60 per person per day (about NRs 3,687 to 9,218) on top of a Gomayu safari. That is more than in Asia because some dinners are not included and you will be eating at lodges inside the parks, where prices are higher than in Nairobi.

Over 7 days that is NRs 25,811 to 64,529, plus the SIM, which is how we reach the NRs 26,500 to 65,800 in the first table. Is 5 lakh enough for a Kenya safari from Nepal?
Not if you include the flight. NRs 5 lakh covers the 7-day safari package itself for any group size, but the package plus the cheapest typical fare is already NRs 5,56,000 for a group of 3 to 5 (NRs 4,20,000 plus NRs 1,36,000). Even a group of 14 or more, at NRs 3,69,000 each, ends up at about NRs 5,46,500 once the fare, eTA, vaccine and lowest pocket money are added.
A realistic budget is NRs 6 to 7 lakh per person for a 7-day Kenya safari from Kathmandu, and closer to 7 lakh for a couple travelling on their own or anyone flying at Dashain, Tihar or in the migration season. Add about NRs 69,000 to 77,000 if you want the balloon flight.

How can you spend less on a Kenya safari from Nepal?
- Travel as a group of 6 or more. On the Lake Nakuru safari the price drops from NRs 4,45,000 each for 2 people to NRs 3,90,000 each for 6 to 13, and NRs 3,69,000 for 14 or more.
- Book the flight early. It is the second-biggest cost, and the cheaper Gulf connections fill first.
- Pick your month. The July to October migration season is the most popular and the busiest. See the best time to visit Kenya for the trade-offs.
- Route through the Gulf. Connecting in Doha, Dubai or Sharjah avoids Kenya's own yellow fever entry check, although you still need the certificate to return to Nepal.
What does the Gomayu price include and exclude?
On the Nairobi, Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru safari, the price includes airport pickup and drop by private vehicle, 6 nights in hotels in Nairobi and lodges inside the parks, the meals named in the itinerary, all park entry fees and permits, a private safari vehicle with a driver-cum-guide, and all transfers and game drives in the itinerary. The Lake Naivasha tour is similar, with a tented camp inside the Maasai Mara and a Lake Naivasha boat safari included.
Both exclude the Kenya eTA, international flights, travel and medical insurance (which should include medical evacuation), meals not named in the itinerary, the hot air balloon safari and other optional activities, tips, and drinks and personal expenses. Prices are subject to the final booking agreement.
