- Airport taxi: Dubai Taxi ranks operate 24 hours a day outside every terminal. Dubai Airports gives the starting fare for an airport pickup as AED 25, before distance charges.
- Metered rates: RTA lists AED 2.19 per kilometre, waiting time at 50 fils per minute and a minimum fare of AED 12 for street pickups and AED 13 for app bookings, as of 2026. Salik road tolls are added to the fare.
- Apps: Careem (including Hala, its partnership with RTA taxis), Uber and Bolt all serve DXB from signed pickup points. App prices rise at peak times.

What can you do if you stay airside?
If your layover is under about 6 hours, or you cannot enter the UAE, DXB is one of the better airports to be stuck in: you can book a proper hotel room by the hour, rent a sleep pod, buy lounge access with showers, or rest for free in quiet zones.
- Dubai International Hotel: located in the Terminal 3 departures area above the duty free level, with rooms near Concourse A (gates A1 to A24), B (gates B14 to B22) and C (gate C13). No transit visa is needed because it is airside. It is for transit passengers with an onward boarding pass from Terminal 3; if you leave from Terminal 1 or 2, you can reach it on the free airport shuttle. Rooms are sold at hourly rates, the maximum stay is 24 hours, and you must not clear immigration if you plan to stay there.
- Sleepover lounges (formerly sleep 'n fly): pods and small single, double and bunk cabins, bookable from a 1-hour nap to a full night, at Terminal 1 D gates and Terminal 3 A, B and C gates. Some locations have showers.

What should you know about etiquette, dress, Fridays and Ramadan?
Dubai is relaxed for visitors, but cover shoulders and knees in malls, souks and religious sites, save swimwear for the beach or pool, and be discreet with public displays of affection. During Ramadan, avoid eating, drinking or smoking in public in daylight.
- Dress: smart casual works almost everywhere. Carry a light scarf or shawl for mosques and air-conditioned interiors, which can be cold.

Is the Museum of the Future open for layover visitors?
Not at the time of writing. The Museum of the Future closed temporarily in mid-September 2026 for a major exhibition revamp, and reopening is expected in the first quarter of 2027. Until then, you can still photograph its striking exterior near Emirates Towers metro station, and use the time for Dubai Frame, Burj Khalifa or Old Dubai instead.

Al Maktoum International (DWC) at Dubai World Central mainly handles cargo, business jets and a small number of passenger flights today. flydubai is expected to begin a phased move there from 2027, with Emirates targeting around 2032, so always check the airport code on your ticket.
