How much is a flight from Kathmandu to Colombo?
A return economy ticket from Kathmandu to Colombo costs about NRs 70,400 to 86,300 for most dates. On 1 Oct 2026, KAYAK's route page showed typical return fares of US$458 to US$562 (about NRs 70,400 to 86,300), with the cheapest recent fare at US$411 (about NRs 63,100).
- Direct flights: SriLankan Airlines is the only airline flying non-stop between Kathmandu and Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), several times a week. Flying time is about 3 hours 35 minutes.
- One-stop options: via Delhi or another Indian hub. They take longer and are not always cheaper.
- Cheaper months: KAYAK's data shows May as the lowest-fare month on this route (US$438 return) and August as the most expensive (US$608).
With only one non-stop airline, seats for Dashain and Tihar dates and the winter school holidays sell out early. Book those first, and ask us to add the current fare to your quote.
Do Nepali citizens pay for the Sri Lanka ETA?
Nepali passport holders still need an approved Sri Lanka Tourist ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) before they fly, but the government fee is waived. The official ETA site, eta.gov.lk, lists Nepal among 40 countries whose citizens get the 30-day tourist ETA without the government fee from 25 May 2026. The notice gives no end date, so check eta.gov.lk again before you travel.
- Gomayu's service fee: none when you book a Sri Lanka package with us. If you only want help with the ETA, our service fee is separate from the government fee and is shown on our visa page.
- How long it takes: usually 24 to 72 hours. Apply at least 3 to 5 working days before you fly.
- Stay: 30 days from your first arrival, with double entry.
- Documents: passport valid 6 months from arrival, a clear scan of the bio page, confirmed return ticket, hotel booking, and a bank statement to show funds. Proof of funds is not a cost.

How much do entry tickets cost in Sri Lanka?
Entry tickets are the cost most budgets miss. Our 6-day and 8-day tours leave them out of the price, so plan on about LKR 10,000 to 15,000 (NRs 4,600 to 7,000) for the 6-day route and LKR 26,000 to 36,000 (NRs 12,100 to 16,700) for the 8-day route. Several sites charge SAARC visitors, including Nepalis, less than other foreigners, so carry your passport.
- Sigiriya Rock Fortress: SAARC adult rate listed at US$15 to US$20 (two 2026 guides disagree); the non-SAARC rate is higher.
- Yala National Park: about US$30 per SAARC adult for a half-day visit. The 8-day tour page lists the Yala jeep safari as optional, at your own cost, so the jeep is extra to the park ticket; we price it in your quote if you want it.
- Dambulla Cave Temple: about LKR 2,500 at the SAARC rate.
- Temple of the Tooth, Kandy: LKR 1,500 at the SAARC rate; the Kandy dance show is about LKR 2,000.
- Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage: LKR 1,400 at the SAARC rate.
- Hakgala Botanical Garden: LKR 3,540. Turtle hatchery: about LKR 2,000.
- Madu River boat ride: about US$60 per boat, shared by up to 6 people.

Is 1 lakh enough for a Sri Lanka trip from Nepal?
No, not with flights. The cheapest package plus the cheapest typical fare already comes to NRs 1,31,900 (NRs 61,500 plus NRs 70,400), before entry tickets or meals. NRs 1 lakh covers the land package and pocket money if you are already in Sri Lanka or flying on points, but not a full trip from Kathmandu.
A realistic budget is about NRs 1.45 to 1.75 lakh per person for 6 days and about NRs 1.65 to 2 lakh for 8 days. A couple travelling on their own pays the 2-person rate, NRs 9,000 more each on the 6-day tour, so add that if it is just the two of you.

- Travel as a group of 3 or more. On the 6-day Sri Lanka Tour the price drops from NRs 70,500 each for 2 people to NRs 49,800 each for 14 or more.
- Book the flight early. It is the biggest single cost, and with one non-stop airline, Dashain, Tihar and winter holiday seats go first.

- Use your SAARC rate. Show your Nepali passport at ticket counters that offer it.
What does the Gomayu price include and exclude?

Sri Lanka's government fee for the Tourist ETA is waived for Nepali citizens from 25 May 2026, with no end date announced, but you still need an approved ETA before you fly. If you book a Sri Lanka package with Gomayu, there is no Gomayu service fee for filing it.
How long is the flight from Kathmandu to Colombo?
A non-stop flight from Kathmandu to Colombo takes about 3 hours 35 minutes. SriLankan Airlines is the only airline flying the route direct, several times a week. One-stop routes via India take longer.
Do Nepali tourists pay less for entry tickets in Sri Lanka?
Often, yes. Several Sri Lanka sites, including Sigiriya, Dambulla, the Temple of the Tooth and Pinnawala, list a lower SAARC rate that applies to Nepali passport holders. Others, such as Hakgala Botanical Garden, charge the same as other foreigners. Carry your passport to the counter.
