Short answer: No, there is no direct flight from Kathmandu to Bali. Every itinerary from Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) to Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) has at least one stop, most often in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok or Singapore, with Delhi as a slower alternative. Flying time alone is about 7 and a half to 8 hours through the Southeast Asian hubs, and the whole journey usually takes about 10 to 13 hours including the connection. Bali is 2 hours 15 minutes ahead of Nepal.
This guide is for honeymooners, families on a Dashain or Tihar break, first time beach travellers and diaspora Nepalis booking the Kathmandu to Bali route. It compares the routings hub by hub, shows how long each takes, explains one ticket versus separate tickets, and ends with a season by season fare range table in Nepali rupees. Everything was checked on 15 Oct 2026. The northern winter schedule starts on 25 October 2026 and times can shift, so confirm on the airline's own website before you pay.

Is there a direct flight from Kathmandu to Bali?
No. On 15 Oct 2026, Google Flights stated that no airline flies direct from Kathmandu to Denpasar, and FlightRoutes, KAYAK and momondo showed the same. This matches our route map of direct flights from Kathmandu, which lists Indonesia among the popular holiday countries that still need a connection from Tribhuvan, alongside Vietnam, the Maldives, the Philippines and Kenya.
Bali is a long way for a nonstop service from Nepal, and no airline currently flies it. Instead, the route works through the Southeast Asian hubs that Kathmandu already connects to every day, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Singapore, each with frequent onward flights to Bali. One connection is all you need.
Booking sites sometimes call a one stop itinerary "direct" when both flights are on one airline. If the details screen shows a stop, you change planes there. If you are still choosing a destination, our list of the best travel destinations for Nepalese travellers compares Bali with closer options that do have nonstop flights.
How far is Bali from Nepal?
Bali is about 5,170 km from Kathmandu in a straight line. Flown via Bangkok, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, which sit almost on that line, it is about 5,200 to 5,270 km; via Delhi, which takes you west first, about 6,670 km. That is why Southeast Asian routings are much quicker. For a map, see where Bali is.
Which routes connect Kathmandu and Bali?
Four routings carry almost all Kathmandu to Bali travellers: via Kuala Lumpur on Malaysia Airlines or Batik Air, via Singapore on Singapore Airlines, via Bangkok on Thai Airways, and via Delhi on Air India or IndiGo. KAYAK's data on 13 Oct 2026 showed Kuala Lumpur carrying 38 percent of one stop connections on this route, Bangkok 24 percent, Singapore 22 percent and Delhi 17 percent. Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific) and Doha (Qatar Airways) also appear on booking sites, but both involve long detours.
| Hub | Kathmandu to hub (airlines, approx. time) | Hub to Bali (airlines, approx. time) | Typical total journey | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kuala Lumpur (KUL) | Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air; also Himalaya Airlines and Nepal Airlines on some days; about 4 h 40 min | Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air, AirAsia; about 3 h 05 min to 3 h 20 min | About 11 to 13 hours | 15 Oct 2026, FlightConnections, FlightsFrom, FlightRoutes, KAYAK |

Via Kuala Lumpur: the busiest option

Kuala Lumpur is the most used hub for Bali because it has the most flights from Kathmandu: about 29 a week in the sample week of 26 October to 1 November 2026, according to FlightsFrom, on Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air Malaysia, Himalaya Airlines and Nepal Airlines. From Kuala Lumpur International, Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air Malaysia and AirAsia together fly about 70 times a week to Bali, so a delay rarely means a long wait for the next flight.
Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air both sell Kathmandu to Bali on one ticket; Google Flights counted 47 weekly Batik Air connecting options and 22 Malaysia Airlines options on 15 Oct 2026. Late night departures from Kathmandu (Malaysia Airlines about 22:45, Batik Air about 21:25 in the sample week) land before dawn and connect to morning flights that reach Bali around midday.
Two cautions. Nepal Airlines has been irregular; Kantipur reported on 1 Oct 2026 that four of its six aircraft were grounded. And AirAsia uses KLIA Terminal 2, while Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air use Terminal 1, so mixing airlines on separate tickets means changing terminals too. For a short stop in the city, see things to do in Kuala Lumpur.
Via Singapore: the shortest second leg

Singapore Airlines flies once daily from Kathmandu to Singapore Changi (SQ441, leaving about 22:50 to 23:10 in mid October 2026) and lands early the next morning. The onward flight to Bali is the shortest of any hub at about 2 hours 40 minutes to 2 hours 55 minutes, with Singapore Airlines alone flying it about 35 times a week, plus Scoot, Garuda Indonesia, Jetstar, KLM and TransNusa.
FlightRoutes listed Singapore as the quickest routing at about 10 hours 18 minutes, and on momondo 60 percent of users choosing a one stop flight connected there. The trade offs: one flight a day from Kathmandu, and fares often at the higher end. Our Singapore Changi Airport guide explains what to do between flights.
Via Bangkok: the easy first leg
Thai Airways flies Kathmandu to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi twice daily, at about 00:25 and 13:30, in roughly 3 hours 20 to 30 minutes; our Kathmandu to Bangkok flight guide covers that leg. Onward, Avionio showed Thai Airways TG431 leaving Bangkok at 09:35 and landing in Bali at 14:55, and TG439 leaving at 12:40 and landing at 18:00, in early to mid October 2026.
The overnight departure from Kathmandu is the natural pairing: land at about 05:10, take the morning Bali flight, and arrive mid afternoon about 12 hours after leaving home. The afternoon Kathmandu flight lands after the last Thai Airways Bali flight has gone, so it usually means a night in Bangkok. Low cost flights to Bali from Bangkok Don Mueang (DMK) are separate tickets from a different airport, a risky combination on arrival day.
Via Delhi: frequent, but long
Delhi has about 80 flights a week from Kathmandu and the shortest first leg, and Air India and IndiGo fly about 17 times a week from Delhi to Bali (FlightsFrom, late October 2026). The catch is the second leg of about 7 hours 45 minutes to 8 hours 05 minutes, because you double back west first; FlightRoutes put the routing at about 13 hours 55 minutes in total. Delhi itineraries sometimes give the lowest headline fare, and many of Skyscanner's cheapest monthly one way finds on 15 Oct 2026 were Air India and IndiGo. On separate tickets, ask the airline whether you must collect your bags in Delhi.
How long does the journey take?
The Kathmandu to Bali journey takes about 10 to 13 hours from take off in Kathmandu to landing in Bali on a well timed one stop itinerary through Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Bangkok. Pure flying time through those hubs is about 7 hours 30 minutes to 8 hours; the rest is the connection. Google Flights showed the fastest itinerary with stops on 15 Oct 2026 at 8 hours 55 minutes, which needs a very short connection, while many cheaper options on booking sites run 15 to 18 hours or more because of long layovers.
| Journey measure | Typical figure | Source, checked 15 Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Fastest itinerary with one stop | 8 hours 55 minutes | Google Flights |
| Typical via Singapore | About 10 hours 18 minutes, with about 3 hours 20 minutes on the ground | FlightRoutes |
| Typical via Kuala Lumpur | About 11 hours 05 minutes, with about 3 hours 20 minutes on the ground | FlightRoutes |
| Typical via Bangkok | About 12 hours 15 minutes, with about 4 hours 25 minutes on the ground | FlightRoutes |
| Typical via Delhi | About 13 hours 55 minutes | FlightRoutes |
| Average one stop time by hub, all searches | 10 h 55 min via Bangkok, 11 h 48 min via Singapore, 12 h 58 min via Kuala Lumpur | KAYAK |
The sites measure different samples, but the message is consistent: Singapore and Kuala Lumpur give the shortest reliable journeys, Bangkok suits the overnight Thai Airways departure, and Delhi, Hong Kong or Doha add several hours.
What time will it be when you land?
Bali uses Central Indonesia Time (UTC+8) and Nepal uses UTC+5:45, with no daylight saving in either, so Bali is 2 hours 15 minutes ahead all year, the same as Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Tickets print arrival in Bali time: a 23:00 departure that takes 10 hours lands at about 11:15 the next morning, not 09:00. Give your driver the Bali time on your ticket, and keep bookings offline in one of the best travel apps.
Overnight or daytime departure?
Most of the best connections leave Kathmandu late at night and land in Bali between late morning and mid afternoon, at the cost of a broken night's sleep. Daytime departures can mean a late night arrival or a longer wait in Kuala Lumpur. Families with young children often prefer the overnight flight and a quiet first afternoon.
Which hub is best for your trip?
For most travellers from Kathmandu, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore is the best hub for Bali: Kuala Lumpur for choice of flights and through fares, Singapore for the shortest and smoothest journey. Bangkok is a good fit if you like the overnight Thai Airways timing or want a few days in Thailand. Delhi is mainly worth it when the fare difference is large and you do not mind a longer day.
| Hub | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Kuala Lumpur | Most flight choices from KTM; through tickets on Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air; many onward flights if one is delayed | Nepal Airlines' irregular operation; AirAsia at a different terminal (KLIA Terminal 2) |
| Singapore | Shortest total journey; short second leg; very comfortable transit airport | Only one flight a day from Kathmandu; fares often higher |
| Bangkok | Short first leg; easy overnight pairing with the morning Bali flight; a Thailand stopover | Afternoon Kathmandu flight misses the last Thai Airways Bali flight; Don Mueang low cost flights are separate tickets |
| Delhi | Many flights from KTM; sometimes the lowest fare | Long backtracking second leg; total journey around 14 hours |
Which routing suits which traveller?
- Honeymooners and couples: a single ticket via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur on an overnight departure, with an optional city stopover on the way home. Our guide to honeymoon destinations from Nepal compares Bali with other favourites.
- Families with children or older parents: the fewest total hours and a connection of two to four hours. Avoid separate tickets; a night in the hub helps older parents.
- Budget and solo travellers: compare Batik Air via Kuala Lumpur and Air India or IndiGo via Delhi, and add bag and meal charges before comparing.
- Diaspora Nepalis: Bali has nonstop flights from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Doha, Dubai, Hong Kong and Australia, so it works as a family meeting point. Agree one arrival window so a single transfer can collect everyone.
Should you book one ticket or separate tickets?

Book Kathmandu to Bali on one ticket whenever you can. Your bags are normally checked through to Denpasar, you usually stay airside at the hub, and if a delay makes you miss the connection, the airline rebooks you. On separate tickets you collect bags, check in again, and a missed second flight can count as a no show.
| Point | One ticket (through fare) | Separate tickets (self transfer) |
|---|---|---|
| Checked bags | Usually tagged through to DPS | Collect and recheck at the hub |
| Missed connection | Airline rebooks you on a later flight | Second ticket may be lost; you pay for a new one |
| Immigration at the hub | Usually not needed if you stay airside | Usually needed, so entry rules for your passport apply |
| Minimum safe gap | The airline's legal minimum, often under two hours | Several hours, or an overnight stay |
| Typical example | Malaysia Airlines or Batik Air KTM to DPS via KUL; Singapore Airlines via SIN; Thai Airways via BKK | Nepal Airlines or Himalaya Airlines to KUL, then AirAsia to DPS |
The self transfer trap
The classic saving is a Nepali airline to Kuala Lumpur plus a low cost flight to Bali. It stacks three risks: a delayed first flight (Nepal Airlines' recent record makes that real), clearing Malaysian immigration to recheck bags, which depends on your passport and the rules on the day, and a change from Terminal 1 to AirAsia's Terminal 2. If you still do it, leave at least five or six hours or stay a night, and buy cover for missed connections; see travel insurance from Nepal. Once you add a checked bag to the low cost fare, the through ticket is often close in price.
Baggage on mixed itineraries
Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and Air India normally include checked baggage in economy, while AirAsia, Scoot, Jetstar and some Batik Air fares sell it as an extra. On separate tickets, the strictest airline sets what you can carry. Our first time flight tips explain how to read a baggage tag before you leave the counter.
What should you know about transit?
On a single ticket where you stay airside, a connection in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Bangkok is usually a walk from one gate to another through a transfer security check. Whether a Nepali passport holder can leave the airport, or needs permission to transit, depends on the hub country and on whether you are changing terminals or collecting bags. Those rules change, so we do not list them here. Our visa team keeps the current position for each country on the Gomayu visa pages; check the hub country before you book a long layover or a self transfer.
Layover tips for each hub
- Kuala Lumpur: follow Transfer signs, not Arrivals. Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air share Terminal 1.
- Singapore Changi: transfer desks are in every terminal, linked airside by the Skytrain. Three hours is comfortable.
- Bangkok Suvarnabhumi: a very large terminal with long walks. Recheck the Bali gate after transfer security.
- Delhi: confirm at Kathmandu check in that your bag is tagged to DPS.
Before you leave Tribhuvan
Reach Tribhuvan about three hours before departure, more during Dashain and Tihar; our Kathmandu airport international departure guide walks through each counter. Ask the agent whether your bag is checked through to Denpasar and whether both boarding passes are printed. A week before, run through our pre-trip checklist, and check the foreign currency limit from Nepal before packing cash. Indonesia uses the rupiah (IDR), and Bali airport has ATMs and exchange counters in arrivals.
Can you add a stopover?
Yes. Two or three nights in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok turns a long travel day into a second short holiday, and some airlines let you build it into a multi city ticket. A stopover means entering the hub country, so check the rules for your passport on the Gomayu visa pages first. For sizing a Singapore stop, see how many days to spend in Singapore.
What happens on arrival at Bali airport?

All international flights to Bali land at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Tuban, about 13 km south of Denpasar near Kuta and Jimbaran. It handled about 23.9 million passengers in 2024. You pass immigration, collect bags and clear customs before the arrivals hall.
Entry rules for Nepali passport holders are on our Indonesia visa page, which our visa team keeps current. Indonesia also uses an online arrival declaration called All Indonesia, and Bali collects a tourist levy from foreign visitors through the provincial Love Bali system, explained in our Bali travel guide. Sort these before you fly.
The order of events at DPS
- Disembark and follow the Arrivals signs.
- Immigration: join the foreign passport queue.
- Baggage reclaim: match your flight number to a belt and check the tag.
- Customs: green channel if nothing to declare, red if you have something.
- Arrivals hall: SIM counters, ATMs, exchange, taxi desks and drivers with name boards.
Queues vary with how many flights land together, so keep arrival day free of fixed bookings, and agree one meeting point if your group lands on different flights.
Getting from the airport to your hotel
Bali has no railway, so you leave the airport by road: pre booked hotel transfers, official airport taxis or ride hailing pickups. The Bali Mandara Toll Road links the airport with Nusa Dua, Sanur and Denpasar, and the Trans Metro Dewata bus corridor K2 runs to Ubung terminal in the daytime. Southern traffic is heavy, and inland Ubud takes noticeably longer to reach than the beach areas.
| Where you are staying | Typical choice from the airport |
|---|---|
| Kuta, Legian, Jimbaran | Taxi or hotel transfer; the closest areas |
| Seminyak, Canggu | Hotel transfer or ride hailing; slow in evening traffic |
| Nusa Dua, Sanur | Hotel transfer via the toll road |
| Ubud | Pre booked private transfer |
| Nusa Penida, Gili Islands | Transfer to the harbour, then a fast boat; avoid a same day boat after a late landing |

Nyepi: the day Bali airport closes
Once a year, on Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, the whole island stops for 24 hours and so does the airport. In 2026, Ngurah Rai suspended regular commercial flights from 06:00 on 19 March to 06:00 on 20 March, affecting about 440 flights, according to the airport's general manager as reported by Business Today. In 2027, Nyepi (Saka New Year 1949) falls on Monday 8 March, the date in Indonesia's joint ministerial decree on 2027 national holidays (Checked: 15 Oct 2026, source: Antara). Expect the airport to close for that day, so do not plan to arrive or leave Bali on 8 March 2027, and check the airline's notice before booking any early March flight.
How much does a Kathmandu to Bali flight cost by season?

A return economy ticket from Kathmandu to Bali for a one week trip typically costs about NPR 63,000 to NPR 145,000, depending on the month, and a one way ticket typically about NPR 48,000 to NPR 64,000, with peak dates above that. January is usually the cheapest month and October, during Dashain and Tihar, the most expensive. These are typical ranges, not quotes: fares change daily, and the price you pay depends on the date, the airline, the routing and how early you book.

Typical range, not a quote. Checked: 15 Oct 2026, source: Google Flights (Nepal, NPR, economy, one adult) and KAYAK. Return ranges are Google Flights' typical prices for the least expensive one week trips per month, based on fares seen over the last 12 months. Google Flights gives no monthly one way ranges for this route, so the one way column uses KAYAK's typical one way range (USD 318 to 422 on 13 Oct 2026), converted at the Nepal Rastra Bank reference rate for 15 Oct 2026 and rounded; the seasonal notes in that column are our judgement from the return data. One way evidence by season is thin, so treat that column as wide and approximate. Ranges include connecting itineraries on all airlines; re-check every season. In mid October 2026 the cheapest live round trips Google Flights showed for December and January dates sat above those months' typical ranges, so book from live searches, not from this table. Our route map of direct flights from Kathmandu, checked a week earlier on 8 Oct 2026, gives matching KAYAK based figures for Bali (about NPR 49,000 to 65,000 one way; the small gap is the newer KAYAK sample and exchange rate).
What the fare data tells us
- Dashain is the expensive window. October's typical return tops out around NPR 145,000, more than 80 percent above the top of January's range, driven by Nepali festival demand.
- Nepal's monsoon is Bali's high season. June to September is Bali's dry, busy season, so fares stay high; KAYAK's global data showed August the dearest month and June close behind.
- December and January are good value. Both sat near the bottom of Google Flights' data, and KAYAK named December its cheapest month.
- November swings widely. Tihar dates are expensive; the weeks after Bhai Tika can be much cheaper.
- Sources differ. KAYAK's typical return (USD 535 to 718, about NPR 81,000 to 109,000) and momondo's (USD 617 to 803) use other samples. Plan with the table, book with live searches.
Dashain and Tihar 2026: plan early
In 2026, Ghatasthapana fell on 11 October, Vijaya Dashami on 21 October, Laxmi Puja on 8 November and Bhai Tika on 10 November, and Bali is one of the most requested festival trips from Kathmandu. On 15 Oct 2026, Google Flights' cheapest last minute return for 22 to 26 October sat above its October typical range. Search as soon as leave and school dates are confirmed. Compare festival options in Dashain and Tihar holidays abroad, and weather in the best time to visit Bali.
How to keep the fare down
- Compare all four hubs for your dates; the cheapest routing changes from week to week.
- Check a few days either side of your preferred date, and look at Tuesday and Wednesday departures.
- Count the full cost: a low cost fare with paid bags, meals and a self transfer can end up close to a full service through fare.
- Book a return rather than two one ways; on full service airlines a return is often better value.
- Avoid the first and last days of Dashain and Tihar if your leave allows.

A return economy flight from Kathmandu to Bali for a one week trip typically costs about NPR 63,000 to NPR 145,000, and a one way flight about NPR 48,000 to NPR 64,000, depending on season. January is usually cheapest and October, during Dashain and Tihar, most expensive. These are typical ranges from Google Flights and KAYAK checked on 15 Oct 2026, not quotes.
Is there a direct flight from Kathmandu to Bali?
No. As of 15 Oct 2026, no airline flies nonstop from Kathmandu to Bali (Denpasar). Every Kathmandu to Bali itinerary has at least one stop, usually in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok or Singapore, with Delhi, Hong Kong and Doha as slower alternatives. One stop is enough, and a through ticket keeps your bags checked to Bali.
How long is the flight from Nepal to Bali?
A flight from Nepal to Bali takes about 10 to 13 hours in total on a good one stop itinerary via Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Bangkok. Flying time alone is about 7 and a half to 8 hours; the rest is the connection. Google Flights showed a fastest option of 8 hours 55 minutes on 15 Oct 2026, while routings via Delhi take around 14 hours.
Is it better to fly via Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok?
For most Kathmandu to Bali trips, Kuala Lumpur is more flexible, with Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air through tickets and about 70 weekly onward flights. Bangkok suits the overnight Thai Airways departure and its morning Bali connection. Singapore usually gives the shortest journey of the three.
How far is Bali from Nepal?
Bali is about 5,170 km from Kathmandu in a straight line. The flown distance via Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok or Singapore is about 5,200 to 5,270 km, because those hubs sit close to the direct line, and about 6,670 km via Delhi, which is why Delhi routings take several hours longer.
Which airport do I fly into in Bali?
International flights to Bali land at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), also called Bali or Denpasar airport, in Tuban about 13 km south of Denpasar near Kuta. Ubud, Canggu and Nusa Dua are reached by road; there is no railway.
Can I stop over in Singapore on the way to Bali?
Yes. Singapore Airlines flies daily from Kathmandu to Singapore, and dozens of weekly flights continue to Bali, so a stopover is easy to build with a multi city search. It means entering Singapore, so check the rules for your passport on the Gomayu visa pages first.
Do I need a transit visa in Kuala Lumpur?
It depends on your passport, whether you stay airside and whether your ticket is a single booking. On a through ticket with bags checked to Bali, travellers usually stay airside at Kuala Lumpur. Separate tickets usually mean clearing Malaysian immigration. Rules change, so check the current position on the Gomayu visa pages before booking a Kuala Lumpur connection.
What is the time difference between Nepal and Bali?
Bali is 2 hours 15 minutes ahead of Nepal all year. Bali uses Central Indonesia Time (UTC+8) and Nepal uses Nepal Standard Time (UTC+5:45), and neither uses daylight saving. When it is 12:00 noon in Kathmandu, it is 14:15 in Bali, the same time as in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
Which airlines fly from Kathmandu to Bali?
On 15 Oct 2026, the main airlines selling Kathmandu to Bali on one ticket were Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air via Kuala Lumpur, Singapore Airlines via Singapore, Thai Airways via Bangkok, Air India via Delhi, Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong and Qatar Airways via Doha. None flies nonstop; all connect at their home hub.
