Short answer: For most Nepali couples, the best honeymoon destinations in Asia are the Maldives, Bali, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai. After a Mangsir wedding (mid November to mid December 2026), Thailand's Andaman coast, Dubai and southern Vietnam have the most reliable weather. After a Magh or Falgun wedding (mid January to mid March 2027), the Maldives and Sri Lanka's south coast are at their best, while Bali turns dry from April.
Choosing a honeymoon from Nepal is different from choosing one from London or Sydney. Your wedding date is set by the saait in the patro, not by the weather abroad. Your flight starts at Tribhuvan International Airport, which has non-stop links to some honeymoon favourites and none to others. And your leave has to fit around family duties after the wedding.
This guide lines up the 2083 BS wedding season with the weather in each destination, compares flight times from Kathmandu, and sorts the options by style: beach, culture, nature and city. It is written for newly married couples in Nepal and for diaspora Nepalis who marry at home, and it lists no prices. For wider ideas, start with our guide to the best travel destinations for Nepalese travellers.

What are the best honeymoon destinations in Asia from Nepal?
The eight destinations that work best for couples flying from Kathmandu are the Maldives, Bali, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai, with the Philippines as a strong ninth for couples with more time. Each has a different strength, and the right one depends far more on your wedding month and the kind of trip you want than on any ranking.
The table below is the quick view: the generally driest or most comfortable months, and whether you can fly from Kathmandu without changing planes.
| Destination | Best for | Most reliable weather | Non-stop from Kathmandu? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maldives | Privacy, overwater villas, reefs | January to March (dry northeast monsoon) | No, one stop (shortest via Colombo) |
| Bali, Indonesia | Culture plus beach, rice terraces, villas | April to September (dry season) | No, one stop (Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Bangkok) |
| Thailand | Islands, food, variety on any budget | November to February for Phuket and Krabi | Yes, to Bangkok |
| Sri Lanka | Beaches, tea hills and wildlife in one short trip | December to February for the south and west coasts | Yes, to Colombo |
| Vietnam | Scenery, food, a quieter alternative to Thailand | Depends on region; the south is dry December to April | No, one stop (usually Bangkok) |
| Malaysia | Langkawi beaches plus Kuala Lumpur | December to March on the west coast; east coast islands outside November to January | Yes, to Kuala Lumpur |
| Singapore | A safe, polished city break, often paired with a beach | February is driest; warm all year | Yes, to Singapore |
| Dubai | Luxury hotels, desert, shopping, short flight | The cooler months, roughly November to March | Yes, to Dubai |
| Philippines | Island hopping, Palawan, Boracay | December to May (dry season) | No, one stop (usually Bangkok) |
Checked: 12 Oct 2026. Weather from the national sources listed under the season table below; routes from FlightConnections schedule data for Kathmandu.
Maldives
The Maldives is the classic honeymoon for a reason: most resorts sit alone on their own island, so privacy is built in. The Maldives Meteorological Service describes January to March as the dry northeast monsoon, with about 10 to 11 hours of sunshine a day, and mid May to November as the wetter southwest monsoon. December and April are transition months. Temperatures sit around 25 to 32°C all year.
There is no non-stop flight from Kathmandu, so you connect, most quickly through Colombo. How you get from Male to your resort (speedboat, seaplane or domestic flight) decides how much of your first day you keep, so read our full Maldives honeymoon planning guide before you pick an island, and our comparison of overwater and beach villas before you pick a room.
Bali, Indonesia

Bali suits couples who want more than a beach. Ubud gives you rice terraces, temples and private pool villas in the jungle; the south coast around Uluwatu and Seminyak gives you sunsets and cliff top dinners. Bali's Hindu culture also feels familiar to many Nepali travellers, from temple offerings to festival days. Indonesia's official tourism site says Bali's dry season usually runs from around April to September and the wet season from October to March.
That makes Bali a mixed choice straight after a Mangsir or Magh wedding, when afternoon downpours are common, and a very good one after a Falgun or Baisakh wedding. Our Bali travel guide covers areas and getting around, and the best places to visit in Bali helps you split time between Ubud and the coast.
Thailand
Thailand is the most flexible honeymoon on this list. Bangkok is about 3 hours 20 minutes from Kathmandu non-stop, and from there short domestic flights reach Phuket, Krabi and Koh Samui. The key is picking the right coast. The UK Met Office notes that the Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi) is at its best from November to February, while the Gulf coast around Koh Samui gets steady rain from October to January, peaking in November. So a Mangsir honeymoon belongs on the Andaman side, and a Falgun or Baisakh one can go to either.
To choose an island, see our guides to the best islands in Thailand and Koh Samui, or compare Bangkok, Pattaya or Phuket.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka packs golden beaches, misty tea country, ancient cities and leopard safaris into an island you can cross in a day. A non-stop SriLankan Airlines flight reaches Colombo in about 3 hours 35 minutes. Sri Lanka Tourism describes December to February as the northeast monsoon season, with clear skies and calm seas on the southwest coast, which is peak season for beaches around Bentota, Galle and Mirissa. October and November bring heavy showers island wide, and from May to September the east coast around Trincomalee is the better side.
For couples, a common shape is beach time on the south coast, a couple of nights in the hills around Ella or Nuwara Eliya, and an optional safari. Our Sri Lanka honeymoon guide covers where to stay.
Vietnam
Vietnam offers dramatic scenery, superb food and lantern lit old towns, often with fewer crowds than Thailand. It is a long country with three weather systems, so the region matters more than the month. Vietnam's national tourism site describes the north (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay) as cool and misty from December to March, with winter lows in Hanoi that can reach about 10°C; Hoi An as rainy from September to January and sunny from February to August; and Ho Chi Minh City as dry from December to April, with Phu Quoc mostly dry from October to June.
That means a Mangsir honeymoon in Vietnam works best in the south, and a Falgun or Baisakh one can take in Hoi An as well. For the most atmospheric evenings in the country, see our Hoi An lantern festival guide.
Malaysia
Malaysia pairs a city with an island easily: Kuala Lumpur is about 4 hours 40 minutes non-stop from Kathmandu, and Langkawi is about 1 hour 5 minutes beyond it. The Malaysian Meteorological Department says the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia gets its heaviest rain in November, December and January, while the west coast has its main rainy peak in October to November and a smaller one in April to May. So for Magh and Falgun weddings, Langkawi and Penang are the better beach choices.
Our Malaysia honeymoon guide covers the islands in detail, and the Langkawi travel guide explains the island itself.
Singapore
Singapore is the easy, safe and very polished option, with a non-stop Singapore Airlines flight of about 5 hours 10 minutes from Kathmandu. It is warm all year. The Meteorological Service Singapore records December as the wettest month and February as the driest, with November to January the wettest stretch overall. Most couples spend three or four nights here and then fly on to Bali or a Thai island. Our Singapore honeymoon guide covers the most romantic things to do.
Dubai
Dubai is the shortest luxury option from Nepal. flydubai, Himalaya Airlines and Nepal Airlines fly non-stop from Kathmandu in about 4 hours 40 minutes. The UAE National Center of Meteorology gives winter average highs of about 24 to 27°C, which is why the cooler months suit desert dinners, beach clubs and evening walks. Summer is very hot, so Dubai is a winter honeymoon. Read our Dubai honeymoon guide for hotels and experiences, and the Dubai desert safari guide for the evening most couples remember.
Philippines
The Philippines is for couples who want to island hop: Palawan's lagoons, Boracay's beach and quieter islands around Cebu and Bohol. PAGASA, the Philippine weather agency, describes December to February as the cool dry season, March to May as hot and dry, and June to November as the rainy season, when typhoons are also a risk. There is no non-stop flight, and Manila is about 3 hours 35 minutes beyond Bangkok, so this works best with at least a week. See our Philippines honeymoon guide.
Closer to home: India
With very short leave, India needs no visa for Nepali citizens. Goa and Kerala are the usual honeymoon picks, and both are outside the June to September southwest monsoon in all three wedding windows. See our Goa travel guide.
Which destinations suit a Mangsir or Magh wedding?

After a Mangsir wedding, choose Thailand's Andaman coast, Dubai or southern Vietnam; after a Magh wedding, the Maldives, Sri Lanka's south coast and the Philippines are at their best; after a Falgun or Baisakh wedding, almost everywhere works, and Bali becomes a strong choice from April. The reason is simple: Nepal's wedding season falls in the northern winter and spring, which is the dry season for much of tropical Asia but the wet season for Bali.
When is the 2083 wedding season?
Weddings in Nepal follow the saait (auspicious dates) published in the patro. Hamro Patro's list for 2083 BS shows marriage dates in only five months: Baisakh, Asar, Mangsir, Magh and Falgun. Jestha, Shrawan, Bhadra, Ashwin, Kartik, Poush and Chaitra have no listed marriage saait. Baisakh and Asar 2083 have already passed, so for couples planning now the season is Mangsir, Magh and Falgun.
| Nepali month (2083 BS) | English dates | Marriage saait days | Saait dates in English |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mangsir | 17 Nov to 15 Dec 2026 | 9, 10, 16, 17, 19, 24, 25, 26 (8 days) | 25 and 26 Nov; 2, 3, 5, 10, 11 and 12 Dec 2026 |
| Poush | 16 Dec 2026 to 14 Jan 2027 | None listed | None |
| Magh | 15 Jan to 12 Feb 2027 | 4, 12, 15, 19, 20, 27 (6 days) | 18, 26 and 29 Jan; 2, 3 and 10 Feb 2027 |
| Falgun | 13 Feb to 14 Mar 2027 | 3, 4, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 25, 26, 30 (12 days) | 15, 16, 23, 24, 27 and 28 Feb; 1, 2, 4, 9, 10 and 14 Mar 2027 |
| Chaitra | 15 Mar to 13 Apr 2027 | None listed | None |
| Baisakh 2084 | From 14 Apr 2027 | Not yet published | Check the 2084 patro when it is released |
Checked: 12 Oct 2026, Hamro Patro marriage saait list for 2083 BS, cross-checked with Merokalam and Vedic Marga. No 2084 saait data was published yet. Families often follow their own purohit, whose dates can differ.
Two patterns matter for honeymoon planning.
- Poush is a natural honeymoon month after a Mangsir wedding. With no saait from mid December to mid January, the wedding rush pauses. But Poush overlaps Christmas and New Year, the busiest weeks in most Asian beach destinations, so book as soon as the wedding date is fixed.
- Chaitra is the quiet window after a Falgun wedding. There are no saait days from mid March to mid April 2027. It is the start of the hot season in Thailand and the warmest stretch in the Maldives, so plan midday shade.
Dashain and Tihar sit outside the wedding season, so couples who married earlier in the year sometimes save the honeymoon for the festival break instead. If that is you, our guide to Dashain and Tihar holidays abroad matches the 2026 festival dates to destinations by leave days.
Season by destination: Mangsir, Magh, Falgun to Baisakh
The table rates each destination for the three honeymoon windows. "Good" means the generally dry or most comfortable season, "Mixed" means a real chance of rain or a regional split, and "Wait" means another window suits it better.
| Destination | Mangsir (mid Nov to mid Dec 2026) | Magh (mid Jan to mid Feb 2027) | Falgun to Baisakh (mid Feb to mid May 2027) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maldives | Mixed: tail of the wet southwest monsoon, improving through December | Good: the dry northeast monsoon, most sunshine | Good until April; warmest in March and April; wet season returns from mid May |
| Bali | Mixed: wet season, showers and green landscapes | Mixed: wet season | Mixed in February and March, good from April; island closed for Nyepi on 8 Mar 2027 |
| Thailand, Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi) | Good: start of the cool, dry season | Good: calm seas | Good in February; hot in March and April; rains begin around May |
| Thailand, Gulf coast (Koh Samui) | Wait: wettest month is November | Mixed: rain eases by February | Good |
| Sri Lanka, south and west coasts | Mixed: inter-monsoon showers in November, better in December | Good: peak beach season | Good in February; March and April warm with afternoon storms; wet from May |
| Vietnam, north (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay) | Mixed: cool and often misty | Mixed: coldest period, pack warm layers | Good from April, warmer and drier |
| Vietnam, centre (Hoi An) | Wait: rain and storm season | Mixed: rains ending | Good: sunny from February |
| Vietnam, south (Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc) | Good: dry season begins in December | Good | Good until April |
| Malaysia, west coast (Langkawi, Penang) | Mixed: end of the main rainy peak | Good | Good in February and March; a second rainy peak in April and May |
| Malaysia, east coast islands | Wait: heaviest rain November to January | Wait | Mixed to good later in the window |
| Singapore | Mixed: wettest period of the year | Mixed early, drier from late January | Good in February; hot with afternoon storms from March |
| Dubai | Good: cooler season begins | Good: mildest weather | Good in February and March; hot by May |
| Philippines | Mixed: end of the rainy and typhoon season | Good: cool dry season | Good: hot dry season |

Three calendar dates worth knowing in 2027
- Nyepi, Monday 8 March 2027. Bali's Day of Silence falls in Falgun. Indonesia's 2027 national holiday decree lists it on 8 March. On Nyepi, Bali's airport stops operating for the day and visitors are expected to stay inside their hotel, so do not plan an arrival, departure or sightseeing day for that date.
- Ramadan, expected from around 8 February 2027. The UAE's Astronomy Centre projects Ramadan to begin on about 8 February, with Eid al Fitr around 9 or 10 March, subject to moon sighting. In Dubai, Malaysia and on Maldivian local islands, avoid eating and drinking openly in public during fasting hours.
- Nepali New Year, 14 April 2027. Baisakh 1, 2084 falls on 14 April 2027. The 2084 wedding saait had not been published when we checked.
Which places suit beach, culture or city couples?
Beach couples should look first at the Maldives, the Andaman coast of Thailand, Langkawi and Palawan; culture lovers at Bali, Sri Lanka and Vietnam; city couples at Singapore and Dubai; and nature lovers at Sri Lanka's hill country and safaris or Bali's rice terraces. For a mix, pair two places a short flight apart rather than rushing through five.
| Style | Best matches | What the days look like | Good pairing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beach and privacy | Maldives, Phuket and Krabi, Langkawi, Palawan | Snorkelling, spa, sunset dinners, very little travel | Singapore or Kuala Lumpur at the start |
| Culture and temples | Bali (Ubud), Sri Lanka's cultural triangle, Hoi An, Bangkok | Temples, old towns, cooking classes, markets | A beach finish: Bali's south coast, Sri Lanka's south coast, Phu Quoc |
| Nature and scenery | Sri Lanka's tea country and parks, Ha Long Bay, Bali's rice terraces, Palawan | Train rides, boat trips, viewpoints, wildlife drives | A quiet beach or a city at the end |
| City and luxury | Singapore, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok | Rooftop dinners, shopping, shows, theme parks | A beach or island: Bali, Langkawi, the Maldives, Phuket |
| Adventure | Bali (Mount Batur, Nusa Penida), Vietnam, the Philippines | Sunrise treks, island hopping, diving | A slow resort stay to recover |
Which honeymoon destinations suit vegetarian couples?
Many Nepali couples eat vegetarian, or at least avoid beef. The easiest destinations are those with large Indian or Hindu communities: Bali, Singapore (Little India), Kuala Lumpur, Dubai and Sri Lanka. In Thailand and Vietnam, fish sauce is common, so ask for dishes without it. Maldives resorts cook to order, so mention your diet when you book, especially on a small island with one restaurant.
First trip abroad together?
If one or both of you have not flown internationally before, choose a non-stop route and a destination with light paperwork. Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Dubai are all non-stop from Kathmandu, and the Maldives is a single connection via Colombo. Our Kathmandu airport international departure guide walks through check-in and immigration at Tribhuvan.
Diaspora couples marrying in Nepal
Many Nepalis living in the Gulf, Malaysia, Australia, the UK or the US come home to marry and take the honeymoon on the way back. Entry rules depend on the passport each of you holds, which may not be the same, so check each partner separately. Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Bangkok can often be built into the return journey as a honeymoon stopover.
Which honeymoon spots are easiest to reach from Kathmandu?

The easiest honeymoon destinations from Kathmandu are those with non-stop flights: Bangkok (about 3 hours 20 minutes), Colombo (about 3 hours 35 minutes), Kuala Lumpur and Dubai (about 4 hours 40 minutes each) and Singapore (about 5 hours 10 minutes). The Maldives, Bali, Vietnam and the Philippines all need one stop, which usually means a long travel day.
| Destination | Non-stop from KTM? | Usual routing | Approx. flying time | Carriers on the KTM leg |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bangkok, Thailand | Yes | Non-stop; onward to Phuket (about 1 h 30 min), Krabi (about 1 h 25 min) or Koh Samui (about 1 h 5 min) | About 3 h 20 min to Bangkok | Thai Airways, Nepal Airlines, Himalaya Airlines |
| Colombo, Sri Lanka | Yes | Non-stop | About 3 h 35 min | SriLankan Airlines |
| Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia | Yes | Non-stop; onward to Langkawi (about 1 h 5 min) or Penang (about 55 min) | About 4 h 40 min to Kuala Lumpur | Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air, Himalaya Airlines, Nepal Airlines |
| Dubai, UAE | Yes | Non-stop | About 4 h 40 min | flydubai, Himalaya Airlines, Nepal Airlines |
| Singapore | Yes | Non-stop | About 5 h 10 min | Singapore Airlines |
| Maldives | No | Via Colombo, then about 1 h 30 min to Male | About 5 h of flying plus the connection | SriLankan Airlines (via Colombo) |
| Bali, Indonesia | No | Via Singapore (about 2 h 40 min on) or Kuala Lumpur (about 3 h 5 min on) | About 7 h 45 min to 8 h of flying plus the connection | Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and others |
| Vietnam | No | Via Bangkok to Hanoi (about 2 h), Da Nang (about 1 h 40 min), Ho Chi Minh City (about 1 h 30 min) or Phu Quoc (about 1 h 25 min) | About 4 h 45 min to 5 h 20 min of flying plus the connection | Thai Airways, Nepal Airlines, Himalaya Airlines to Bangkok |
| Philippines | No | Via Bangkok to Manila (about 3 h 35 min), or via Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Hong Kong | About 7 h of flying plus the connection | Various |

Why the connection matters more on a honeymoon
A wedding week leaves most couples exhausted, and a 10 to 12 hour travel day straight after the reception is hard. Three habits help:
- Keep it on one ticket. When Kathmandu to your final city is a single booking, the airline rebooks you if a delay breaks the connection, and your bags are usually checked through.
- Turn the stop into a stay. Two nights in Bangkok, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur on the way to Bali, Vietnam or the Maldives makes the journey part of the honeymoon.
- Match your Maldives arrival to your transfer. Seaplanes in the Maldives fly in daylight only, so an evening landing in Male usually means a night near the airport. Our guide on how to get around the Maldives explains the three transfer types.
Time differences from Nepal
Nepal is on UTC+5:45, so every destination here is a small adjustment rather than jet lag. The Maldives is 45 minutes behind Nepal, Sri Lanka 15 minutes behind, Dubai 1 hour 45 minutes behind, Thailand and Vietnam 1 hour 15 minutes ahead, and Malaysia, Singapore, Bali and the Philippines 2 hours 15 minutes ahead.
How many days do you need for each?
Plan about 5 to 7 nights for the Maldives, 4 to 5 for Dubai, 3 to 5 for Singapore, 6 to 8 for Thailand, Bali or Malaysia, and 7 to 10 for Sri Lanka, Vietnam or the Philippines. The one-stop destinations need more nights simply because travel eats into both ends of the trip.
| Destination | Minimum that works | Comfortable length | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maldives | 5 nights | 7 nights | Connection plus resort transfer takes most of a day each way |
| Dubai | 4 nights | 5 nights | Non-stop flight; the city, desert and beach are close together |
| Singapore | 3 nights | 4 to 5 nights | Compact; often paired with Bali or a Thai island |
| Thailand | 5 nights | 7 to 8 nights | Bangkok plus one island; add a second island with more time |
| Bali | 6 nights | 7 to 9 nights | One-stop flight; split between Ubud and the coast |
| Malaysia | 5 nights | 6 to 7 nights | Kuala Lumpur plus Langkawi or Penang |
| Sri Lanka | 6 nights | 8 to 10 nights | Beach, hills and a safari each need time; road transfers are slow |
| Vietnam | 7 nights | 9 to 10 nights | One-stop flight and a long country; pick one or two regions |
| Philippines | 7 nights | 9 to 10 nights | One-stop flight plus domestic flights between islands |
These are planning lengths from our team's experience with couples flying out of Kathmandu, not rules. If your leave is short, choose a non-stop destination rather than shortening a one-stop trip. Five nights in Dubai or Singapore gives you more honeymoon than five nights in Bali, because you spend less of it in airports.
Maldives or Bali, Thailand or Vietnam: how to choose?

Choose the Maldives for privacy and water, Bali for culture and variety; choose Thailand for ease and island choice, Vietnam for scenery and a slower, less crowded feel. The month of your wedding often decides it: after a Magh wedding the Maldives has better weather than Bali, and after a Mangsir wedding Thailand's Andaman coast is drier than central Vietnam.
Maldives or Bali?
| Question | Maldives | Bali |
|---|---|---|
| What is the trip about? | Rest, privacy, the sea | Culture, food, scenery and beach together |
| Best months for weather | January to March (dry season); December and April are transitional | April to September (dry season) |
| After a Mangsir wedding | Improving through December | Wet season |
| After a Magh wedding | Best season | Wet season |
| After a Falgun or Baisakh wedding | Good until about mid May | Good from April; avoid Nyepi on 8 Mar 2027 |
| Getting there from KTM | One stop, shortest via Colombo | One stop, via Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok |
| Moving around | Most couples stay on one resort island | Drives between areas; traffic can be slow |
| Food | Resort dining; ask about vegetarian options before booking | Wide choice, including many vegetarian cafes in Ubud |
| Paperwork for Nepali passports | Visa on arrival plus an online traveller declaration | Visa arranged before travel, plus Bali's tourist levy |
The honest summary: if you married in Magh and want to switch off completely, the Maldives is hard to beat. If you married in Falgun and want to explore, or you would get restless on one small island, Bali is the better fit. For island ideas, see our guide to the best islands in the Maldives; for Bali's most photographed coastline, see the Nusa Penida guide.
Thailand or Vietnam?
| Question | Thailand | Vietnam |
|---|---|---|
| What is the trip about? | Islands, beaches, food, nightlife if you want it | Landscapes, old towns, food, cruises |
| Getting there from KTM | Non-stop to Bangkok, then short flights to the islands | One stop, usually via Bangkok |
| After a Mangsir wedding | Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi) is good; avoid Koh Samui | South and Phu Quoc are good; Hoi An is rainy; the north is cool |
| After a Magh wedding | Andaman coast is good | South is good; the north is at its coldest |
| After a Falgun or Baisakh wedding | Both coasts work; hot in March and April | Most of the country works; Hoi An is sunny |
| Crowds | Busy in peak season, especially Phuket and Phi Phi | Generally quieter outside Ha Long Bay and Hoi An |
| Paperwork for Nepali passports | Thai e-Visa, applied for well ahead, plus a digital arrival card | Vietnam e-visa |
Thailand is the safer choice for a first honeymoon abroad because the flight is non-stop and the beach logistics are simple. Vietnam rewards couples who like to explore and do not mind a connection. Our full comparison, Vietnam or Thailand, goes into more detail, and the Ha Long Bay guide explains the overnight cruises that many couples choose in the north.
Where do Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai fit?
Sri Lanka is the best all-rounder after a Magh wedding. Malaysia suits a city plus island trip in Magh or Falgun. Singapore works best as a polished opener before a beach; the Sentosa guide covers its resort island. Dubai is the strongest pick when leave is short and the wedding is in Mangsir or Magh.
What should couples sort out before flying?
Before booking anything, check that the names on your tickets match your passports exactly, that both passports have enough validity, and that each partner's entry paperwork for the destination is in order. None of these can be fixed at the airport.
Passport names after marriage
You do not need the same surname on both passports to travel together as a married couple. What matters is that each air ticket matches the passport it will be used with, letter for letter. If a bride's passport still carries her family surname, book her ticket in that name.
Adding the husband's surname means applying for a new passport. Nepal's Department of Passports lists the documents for a married woman who wants her husband's surname added to the surname on her citizenship certificate: the marriage registration certificate (bibaha darta pramanpatra) and the husband's citizenship certificate. A new passport has a new number, so any visa or booking made on the old one may need redoing. Most couples travel on their current passports and update names afterwards. Our e-passport guide for Nepal explains the passport format and renewal.
Paperwork by destination
Entry rules for Nepali passport holders vary widely and change often. Our visa team handles applications, and each country page below has the current requirements. Status as checked on official sources on 12 Oct 2026:

| Sri Lanka | Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) required before arrival | None beyond the ETA | Sri Lanka visa |
| Thailand | Thai e-Visa; the embassy in Kathmandu advises applying at least a month ahead | Thailand Digital Arrival Card | Thailand visa |
| Malaysia | Visa required before travel | Malaysia Digital Arrival Card | Malaysia visa |
| Vietnam | E-visa, available to all nationalities | None beyond the e-visa | Vietnam visa |
| Bali, Indonesia | Visa before travel; Nepal is not on Indonesia's visa on arrival list | Bali tourist levy for international visitors | Indonesia visa |
| Philippines | Check current rules with our visa team before booking | See the Philippines visa page | Philippines visa |

Honeymoon planning checklist
- Passport validity. Many countries and airlines expect at least six months' validity beyond your travel dates. Check both passports now.
- Names on tickets. Book each ticket exactly as the name appears on that passport, including middle names.
- Marriage registration certificate. Carry a copy, and a photo on your phone. Many resorts ask for proof of marriage, often within a set period after the wedding date, before they add honeymoon extras. Our visa team can also tell you whether your destination's application asks for it.
- Online arrival forms. Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and the Maldives each ask for an online form before arrival that is separate from any visa. Use the official government sites only.
- Travel insurance. A missed connection, a typhoon or a diving accident can cost far more than the cover. See our guide to travel insurance from Nepal.
- Foreign currency. Nepal limits how much foreign currency you can take out, so check before you exchange. Our guide on the foreign currency limit from Nepal explains the rules.
- Festival dates. Avoid Nyepi in Bali (8 Mar 2027), allow for Ramadan (expected from about 8 Feb 2027), and book early for Poush, which follows the Mangsir weddings and overlaps Christmas and New Year.
For everything else to sort before an international trip, from documents to packing, work through our pre-trip checklist.
Frequently asked questions
Which country is best for a honeymoon from Nepal?
The best honeymoon country from Nepal depends on your wedding month. After a Mangsir wedding, Thailand's Andaman coast and Dubai have the most reliable weather. After a Magh wedding, the Maldives and Sri Lanka's south coast are at their best. After a Falgun or Baisakh wedding, Bali and Vietnam work well. Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai are non-stop from Kathmandu.
Is the Maldives good for a honeymoon in December?
Yes, with a caveat. The Maldives Meteorological Service treats December as a transition month between the wet southwest monsoon and the dry season of January to March, so showers are more likely than in January or February. Late December in the Maldives also overlaps Christmas and New Year, the busiest weeks for resorts, so book early.
Is Bali good for a honeymoon in Mangsir?
Bali in Mangsir (mid November to mid December) falls in the wet season, which Indonesia's official tourism site places from October to March. Expect warm days, heavy afternoon showers, green rice terraces and fewer crowds. Couples who mainly want beach time may prefer Thailand's Andaman coast in Mangsir and save Bali for a trip from April.

Is Thailand good for couples?
Thailand is one of the easiest honeymoon destinations for Nepali couples, with a non-stop flight to Bangkok and short hops to the islands. Pick the coast by month: Phuket and Krabi are best from November to February, while Koh Samui is wettest in November. Nepali passport holders need a Thai e-Visa, so apply well ahead.
Do we need the same surname on both passports?
No. A married couple does not need matching surnames to travel together; each ticket must simply match its passport exactly. To add a husband's surname, Nepal's Department of Passports asks for the marriage registration certificate and the husband's citizenship certificate with a new passport application, so most couples travel first and update passports afterwards.

Is Sri Lanka good for a honeymoon?
