Short answer: You can book a Thailand trip from Nepal yourself if you hold an international card, are comfortable sorting the Thai visa and arrival card, and want flexibility. An agency makes more sense for festival dates, families, groups and first trips abroad. Either way, check the company's tourism licence, PAN and written terms, pay into a company account, and keep every receipt.
Thailand is one of the most common first international holidays for Nepali families, couples and friends, and a fixture in our guide to the best destinations for Nepalese travellers. That popularity means plenty of choice, and a crowded market where a polished social media page tells you little about who is holding your money. This guide lays out honestly what a do it yourself (DIY) Thailand trip involves from Kathmandu, what an agency adds, and a vetting checklist that works for any company in Nepal.
It complements our general guide on how to choose a travel agency in Nepal you can trust, which covers licences, PAN checks and warning signs in depth. Here the focus is a Thailand trip booked from Nepal, with festival dates, card limits and Thai entry rules in the picture. Still deciding on Thailand? Start with our Thailand travel guide.
A note on who wrote this: a travel company in Kathmandu. Every check below applies to us as much as to anyone else, and for plenty of trips the honest answer is that you do not need an agency at all.
Should you book a Thailand trip yourself or through an agency?
Book it yourself if the trip is simple, you have an international card and you enjoy the planning. Use an agency if your dates cannot move, you are travelling with parents or small children, or this is your first trip outside South Asia. The deciding factor is rarely the destination. It is how many moving parts the trip has and how much a failure would cost you.
Thailand is one of the easier countries in Asia to plan on your own. Transport works, English is common in tourist areas, and ride hailing removes most taxi arguments. Our Thailand travel tips for first time visitors and a few useful travel apps make the ground side manageable. The harder parts for a Nepali traveller sit before departure: paying foreign suppliers from Nepal, getting the visa right, and securing seats out of Kathmandu at festival time.
| Your situation | DIY usually works | An agency usually helps |
|---|---|---|
| Travellers | Solo, a couple, or friends who travel often | Parents, grandparents, small children, groups of six or more |
| Route | One city, or Bangkok plus one beach town | Three or more bases, internal flights, island ferries |
| Dates | Flexible, outside festival peaks | Fixed to Dashain, Tihar, Dec to Jan school breaks or office leave |
| Payments | You hold a foreign currency card that works online | You only hold NPR cards, or you need to pay in Nepal |
| Experience | You have travelled abroad and handled arrival formalities before | First flight abroad, or first time beyond India |
| What you want | Freedom to change plans day by day | One contact who rebooks when something breaks |
There is also a middle path: buy the flight yourself, then ask a company to arrange hotels, airport transfers and day tours. The airline owns your ticket, and a ground team handles the part that is hardest to fix from a phone in an unfamiliar city.
Cost gets its own guides: our breakdown of the Thailand trip cost from Nepal and our look at whether Thailand is expensive once you are there. This guide quotes no prices, because a fair comparison needs the same hotels, dates and inclusions on both sides.
What does a DIY Thailand trip from Nepal involve?

A DIY Thailand trip means booking five things yourself: the flight from Kathmandu, your hotels, airport and intercity transfers, activities, and your entry paperwork. Each is straightforward on its own. The difficulty for Nepali travellers is mostly payment and timing, not knowledge.
| Task | What it involves | Where Nepali travellers commonly get stuck |
|---|---|---|
| International flight | Choosing a non-stop or one stop route from Kathmandu, picking the Bangkok airport, buying the ticket | Paying online with a card that works abroad; festival seats selling out; spelling the name exactly as in the passport |
| Hotels | Choosing areas, comparing rooms, paying or guaranteeing the booking | Card guarantee at booking; security deposits at check-in; picking an area that looks central on a map but is not |
| Transfers | Airport to hotel, Bangkok to Pattaya by road, flights or ferries to islands | Late night arrivals, luggage with children, ferry timings that change with the season |
| Activities | Island boat trips, shows, theme parks, temple visits | Pickup points far from the hotel, weather cancellations, refund rules in small print |
| Entry paperwork | Thai visa for your passport, online arrival card, insurance | Applying late, uploading the wrong documents, confusing the visa with the arrival card |
Flights from Kathmandu
Non-stop flights connect Kathmandu with Bangkok, and one stop routes through other hubs add choice on busy dates. Which airline lands at which Bangkok airport matters if you have an onward connection, so read our guide to the Kathmandu to Bangkok flight before you buy. If you are new to flying abroad, our first time flight tips and the walkthrough of international departure at Kathmandu airport remove most of the uncertainty on the day.
Two DIY habits save trouble. Buy from the airline or a well known booking site, never from an individual sending screenshots. And confirm you hold a ticket, not just a reservation. A ticketed booking has an e-ticket number, which is 13 digits long and begins with the airline's three digit code. A six character booking reference on its own can be a hold that lapses. You can check either on the airline's own "manage booking" page using the reference and your surname.
Hotels and where to stay
Most first trips combine Bangkok with one beach base, though Chiang Mai suits travellers who prefer culture and cooler evenings. Choosing between them is the decision that shapes everything else, and our comparison of Bangkok, Pattaya or Phuket covers which suits couples, families and groups. If Bangkok is your base, our area by area Bangkok guide helps you pick a neighbourhood. Before paying for any hotel, check whether the rate is refundable and until when, whether breakfast is included, and whether a refundable security deposit is taken at check-in. Many Thai hotels take one, so leave room on your card.
Transfers and getting around
Bangkok's airports connect to the city by rail, taxi and app based rides. Intercity legs are where DIY gets harder. Bangkok to Pattaya is a road trip; Phuket, Koh Samui and the other Thai islands mean a domestic flight, a ferry or both. With elderly parents or several suitcases, a pre-booked private transfer is often worth the extra. Our Thailand itinerary guide shows how much travel time each route adds.
Entry paperwork
Thai entry rules depend on the passport you hold, and they changed again on 15 September 2026, when Thailand introduced a new visa exemption framework. Nepal is not on the visa exemption or visa on arrival lists announced for that change, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, so Nepali passport holders should plan for a visa before travel. Separately, Thailand requires an online arrival card, the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), submitted before arrival on the official TDAC portal. For current requirements, timelines and what to prepare, use our Thailand visa page rather than social media posts, which are often out of date. Checked: 12 Oct 2026, TAT Newsroom, 1 Sep 2026.
Card payments abroad: the part DIY guides skip
This is where most Nepali DIY plans stall. At several Nepali banks, the standard NPR debit card is valid only in Nepal and India, so it will not pay a Thai hotel or an airline's foreign website. Agricultural Development Bank and Nepal SBI Bank both state this on their card pages, and Nepal SBI Bank offers a separate US dollar card for use abroad. Checked: 12 Oct 2026, ADBL and Nepal SBI Bank.
A foreign currency card is normally loaded under Nepal Rastra Bank's passport facility, which sets how much foreign currency you can buy per trip and how much of it can be cash. Our guide to the foreign currency limit from Nepal explains the current rule and the circular it comes from. Four practical points follow from it:
- Load the card early. You need your passport and travel details at the bank, and you want time to test an online payment before the trip.
- Keep card spending for things that need it. Hotel deposits, larger restaurant bills and domestic flights work well on a card; markets and street food are mostly cash or local QR.
- Diaspora relatives can help, carefully. A family member abroad can pay with their own card, but the booking should stay in the traveller's name, and some hotels ask to see the paying card. Ask the hotel first.
- Know what you can bring back. Shopping in Bangkok is part of the fun, but Nepal's customs allowance applies when you land in Kathmandu.
If none of this is possible, you are not stuck: a company in Nepal can take rupees at home for the parts it arranges, a common reason Nepali travellers use an agency for Thailand.
What does a travel agency actually do for you?

A good agency does three things you cannot easily do alone: it makes the parts of the trip fit together, it takes payment in Nepal, and it gives you a named person to call when something breaks in Thailand. It cannot guarantee a visa, change an airline's rules or make a cheap hotel good.
| An agency can | An agency cannot |
|---|---|
| Coordinate flights, hotels, transfers and tours so timings match | Guarantee that a visa will be granted |
| Accept payment in NPR inside Nepal for the services it sells | Override an airline's fare rules, baggage limits or schedule changes |
| Help you prepare a complete visa file and check documents | Promise a specific room, view or upgrade unless the hotel confirms it |
| Arrange a local ground team in Thailand for pickups and tours | Control the weather, ferry cancellations or road traffic |
| Rebook transfers and tours when your flight changes | Refund money that a supplier has already kept under its own terms |
Who actually delivers your trip in Thailand
Most Nepali agencies do not run their own vehicles in Bangkok or Phuket. They work with a Thai ground handler that provides drivers, guides and tour bookings. That is normal; what matters is that the handler is legitimate. In Thailand, tour businesses need a licence from the Department of Tourism under the Tourism Business and Guide Act B.E. 2551 (2008). It is reasonable to ask your Nepali agency for the name of its Thai partner and that partner's licence number. Checked: 12 Oct 2026, Thailand BOI One Start One Stop.
Thailand's Tourist Police also run a 24 hour hotline, 1155, for visitors, whoever booked the trip. Checked: 12 Oct 2026, TAT Newsroom.
Group departure or private trip
A group departure runs on fixed dates with a shared vehicle, which suits first time and solo travellers. A private trip runs on your dates and pace, which suits families and couples, and is how most honeymooners travel; see our guide to honeymoon destinations from Nepal. Ask which one you are being quoted.
How do you check a travel company in Nepal is genuine?
Ask for the company's tourism licence, company registration and PAN, check the licence is current, cross check any association membership on the association's own website, and visit the office before you pay a large amount. A genuine company sends these documents without fuss.
Our general guide on verifying a travel agency in Nepal walks through each document. Below is the short, Thailand focused version, with one correction to a point that is widely repeated online.
Who licenses travel agencies in Nepal today
Travel agencies in Nepal need a tourism licence to sell travel. Many guides, including older ones, say this comes from the Department of Tourism. Since Nepal moved to a federal system, licensing for agencies in Kathmandu is handled by Bagmati Province's Province Tourism Office in Babarmahal (formerly Tourism Office Kathmandu), under the provincial Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Labour and Transport. The office publishes the documents required for travel and trekking agency licences, renewals, amendments and cancellations, under the Province Tourism Act 2078. Agencies registered in other provinces deal with their own province's tourism office. Checked: 12 Oct 2026, Province Tourism Office, Bagmati Province.
We could not find a searchable online register of licensed travel agencies on either the federal Department of Tourism or the Bagmati office website. So the practical check is the document: ask for a copy of the licence, read the company name and validity date, and make sure the name matches the company that will issue your bill.
NATTA, TAAN and IATA: which ones matter for a Thailand trip
| Credential | What it is | Relevant to a Thailand holiday? | How to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tourism licence | Government licence to operate as a travel agency, renewed periodically | Yes, essential | Ask for a copy; check name and validity date |
| Company registration and PAN | Legal existence of the company (Office of the Company Registrar) and its tax number (Inland Revenue Department) | Yes, essential | Ask for both; the PAN should appear on your bill. The IRD and OCR websites offer public lookups |
| NATTA membership | Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents, the national trade body for tour and travel agencies, founded on 10 March 1966 | Yes, as supporting evidence | Search the NATTA member directory, which can be filtered by region and by initial letter |
| TAAN membership | Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal, founded in 1979 as an umbrella body for trekking agencies | No. It concerns trekking inside Nepal, not outbound holidays | Only relevant if you are booking a trek in Nepal |
| IATA accreditation | Lets an agency issue tickets for IATA member airlines under one agreement and settle through IATA's Billing and Settlement Plan | Useful if the agency issues your flight tickets itself; not required to sell hotels and tours | Ask for the IATA numeric code; IATA's CheckACode tool validates agency codes |
Checked: 12 Oct 2026, NATTA, TAAN, IATA accreditation.
Two common misreadings. A TAAN logo on an agency selling Bangkok and Pattaya says nothing about its outbound work, because TAAN is a trekking association. And an agency without IATA accreditation is not automatically a risk: smaller agencies often issue tickets through an accredited partner. What matters is a real e-ticket number you can verify on the airline's site.
The vetting checklist
Run these checks in order. Each is cheap, and the first failure is usually enough to stop.
- Tourism licence: current, in the same company name you will pay.
- Company registration and PAN: the PAN matches the one printed on the quote and bill.
- Physical office: a signboard, staff and a desk you can visit. Go once before paying a large sum.
- Association membership: confirmed on the association's own directory, not just a logo on a website.
- Written quote: hotel names or a clearly defined category, inclusions, exclusions and cancellation terms.
- Thai partner: the agency can name its ground handler and explain who meets you at the airport.
- Emergency contact: a named person and a number that answers during Thai hours, not just Nepal office hours.
- Company bank account: payment goes to an account in the company's name, never a personal account or wallet.
- Reviews: read recent Google reviews, especially the negative ones and how the company replied. A burst of short five star reviews in one week is a weaker signal than a mixed record with thoughtful replies.
Red flags specific to Thailand trips
- Cash only, a personal account, or no office. A licensed company has a company account and an address.
- "Visa guaranteed". Only Thai authorities decide a visa. A guarantee is either untrue or a claim of influence, and both are bad signs.
- Pressure. "Only two seats left for Dashain, pay today" may be true for flights, but it is never a reason to skip reading the terms.
- "Hotel: 4 star, Bangkok" with no name. Unnamed hotels in a quote often turn out to be far from where you expected to stay.
What should a written Thailand quote include?

A proper written quote names the hotels or a precise category and area, lists every transfer and tour, states what is and is not included, gives the payment schedule and the cancellation terms, and carries the company's registered name and PAN. If it is not written down, assume it is not included.
Compare quotes on what they contain, not just the bottom line. Two quotes for the same route can describe very different trips.
| Item | What good looks like | What should make you ask again |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels | Named hotels, or a named hotel "or similar" in the same area and grade, room type and meal plan | "Standard hotel" with no name, area or room type |
| Transfers | Airport pickup and drop, intercity transfers, private or shared stated | "Transfers as per itinerary" with no detail |
| Tours | Each tour named, with entry tickets included or excluded stated | Tours listed without saying whether entry is included |
| Flights | Airline, route, baggage allowance, whether the fare is ticketed or on hold | "Flight from Kathmandu" with no airline or baggage detail |
| Visa support | Which documents the company checks, and that the visa decision rests with Thai authorities | Any promise about the visa outcome |
| Payment | Deposit, balance and due dates, paid to a company account | Full payment immediately, or payment to a person |
| Cancellation | What is refundable at each stage, and how long refunds take | "Non-refundable" for everything, or no terms at all |
| Contact | A named contact in Nepal and an emergency number for Thailand | Only the salesperson's mobile number |
What a Thailand package typically includes and excludes
Every company draws the line differently, so treat this as a list of questions to ask rather than a rule. The point is to spot gaps before you compare totals.
| Usually included in a land package | Often excluded, so ask |
|---|---|
| Hotel nights with breakfast | International flights from Kathmandu |
| Airport pickup and drop | Thai visa and the related fees |
| Transfers between cities in the plan | Travel insurance |
| Sightseeing tours listed in the plan | Lunches and dinners not listed |
| Some entry tickets, if stated | Optional shows, water sports and theme parks |
| Local support while you travel | Hotel security deposits, tips, personal shopping, porterage |
Insurance deserves a special mention because it is so often left off. A package does not replace cover for hospital treatment, and private hospitals in Thailand generally ask for payment, or a guarantee from your insurer, before or during treatment. Our guide to travel insurance from Nepal explains what to look for, including the scooter and water sports clauses. The realistic risks in Thailand are covered in our guide on whether Thailand is safe.
How far ahead should you book for festivals and peak season?

For Dashain and Tihar, book flights as soon as your leave is confirmed, because seats out of Kathmandu fill first and hotels in Thailand are then easy to add. For December to January and for Songkran in April, start a few months ahead. Outside these windows, a few weeks is usually enough for a simple trip.
Nepal's biggest travel demand comes from its own calendar. Dashain and Tihar are when many families are off work and school together; our guide to Dashain and Tihar holidays abroad matches the holiday blocks with destinations. In 2026, Vijaya Dashami Tika falls on 21 October and the Tihar holiday runs from 8 to 12 November, per the Ministry of Home Affairs list published on 2 March 2026. Next year's dates come from next year's list, so that is the earliest reliable moment to plan.
| Travel window | Why it is busy | Suggested planning lead | What to lock first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dashain and Tihar (October to November) | Peak outbound demand from Nepal; families travel together | As soon as leave and the holiday list are confirmed | Flights from Kathmandu, then hotels |
| December to January | Winter school breaks in Nepal and Thailand's cool, dry high season | Several months ahead | Beach hotels and island transfers, then flights |
| Songkran (13 to 15 April) | Thai New Year water festival; Nepali New Year on 1 Baisakh falls in the same week | A few months ahead | Hotels in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and beach towns |
| May to October (outside festivals) | Rainy season on much of the Andaman coast; quieter | A few weeks | Check ferry and island schedules for the month |
| Honeymoon after wedding season | Wedding dates cluster in auspicious months, so couples travel in waves | As soon as the wedding date is fixed | The resort or island you care about most |
These lead times are planning guidance, not official figures. For month by month weather on each coast, see the best time to visit Thailand.
Last minute bookings
If your leave starts next week, change the order of decisions. Check your passport first: Thailand, like most countries, expects several months of validity and blank pages, and our e-passport guide for Nepal covers renewals. Then find a flight, since that is the scarce part. Then check how long a Thai visa takes on the Thailand visa page, because a booked trip with no visa in time is the most expensive mistake on this list. Only then book hotels, preferably refundable ones. If Thailand is full, our list of direct flights from Kathmandu shows the alternatives.
How should you pay, and what receipts should you keep?
Pay a company, not a person, through a traceable method such as a bank transfer, card or QR payment to the company's account, and collect a bill carrying the company's name and PAN for every payment. Keep the quote, the bill, the e-ticket and the hotel confirmations together until you are home.
Nepal's Consumer Protection Act 2075 (2018) covers services as well as goods, requires sellers to give a bill or receipt, and treats refusing to issue a bill or invoice as an unfair trade practice. In practice that means you are entitled to ask for a proper bill every time you pay. Checked: 12 Oct 2026, Consumer Protection Act 2075, English text, sections 2(d), 11(g) and 16(2)(j).
| Payment stage | What you should receive | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit | A bill with company name and PAN, and the written quote you agreed | The amount matches the quote and the payee is the company |
| Flight ticketing | An e-ticket with a 13 digit ticket number | Look it up on the airline's site with your surname |
| Balance | A final bill and hotel confirmations or vouchers | Hotel names, dates and room types match the quote |
| Any refund | A written refund note with amount and date | The refund reaches the account it came from |
Deposits and instalments
Paying in stages is normal. A deposit secures the booking, and the balance is due before travel. The exception is airfare: airlines require full payment when a ticket is issued. If a company asks for the full flight amount early, ask whether it will issue the ticket now and send the e-ticket number. If yes, that is reasonable.
Confirm the hotel yourself
About a week before you fly, message one of your hotels with the confirmation number from your voucher and ask it to confirm the reservation in your name. A legitimate agency will not mind; it proves the booking exists at the supplier, not just on letterhead.
If something goes wrong
Start with the company in writing. If that fails, Nepal has formal routes, and your receipts are what make them work.
| Route | When to use it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| The company, in writing | Always first | Ask for the refund or fix and a date, by email or letter |
| Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection | Unfair practice, no bill, misleading service | Online complaint form on the government's consumer complaint system; documents can be attached |
| Consumer Court, or the District Court until one is set up | Claims for compensation | The Act requires compensation claims within six months of the harm (section 50) |
| Provincial tourism office | Concerns about a licensed agency's conduct | The Bagmati office has a suggestions and complaints form on its website |
| Trade association | If the company is a NATTA member | A trade body, not a regulator, but members have a reputation to protect |
| Your bank | If you paid by card and the service was not delivered | Ask whether a card dispute is possible and what the deadline is |
| Police | Clear fraud: money taken and no service, or a disappearing seller | Bring every receipt, chat record and bank slip |
Checked: 12 Oct 2026, Consumer Protection Act 2075 sections 36, 48 and 50; Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection; Province Tourism Office, Bagmati.
What questions should you ask before you pay?
Ask who holds each booking, what happens if the visa is refused or the flight changes, who answers the phone while you are in Thailand, and exactly what the cancellation terms are. Ask in writing and keep the replies; a serious company answers all of them plainly.
Questions for any company
- Can you send a copy of your tourism licence, company registration and PAN?
- Is the bill issued by the same company named on the licence?
- Which hotels exactly, in which area, which room type, with which meals?
- Is my flight ticketed or on hold? When will I receive the e-ticket number?
- If my Thai visa is refused, what is refundable and how long does the refund take?
- If my flight is delayed or changed, who rebooks the transfers and tours?
- Who is your partner in Thailand, and what is their licence number?
- Who do I call at night in Thailand, and is that person briefed on my booking?
- What are the cancellation charges at each stage before departure?
- What is not included that I will pay for during the trip?
Extra questions for families and older parents
- Does each hotel have a lift, and how far is the walk from the drop off point?
- Are island transfers by speedboat or larger ferry, and how rough is the sea in our month?
- Can meals be vegetarian, or avoid beef and pork, and is that written into the plan?
- Are child seats available on private transfers?
Extra questions for diaspora Nepalis booking for family
Many Nepalis abroad book Thailand for parents in Kathmandu, or for a family trip during a visit home. Ask how you can pay from abroad, in whose name the bill is issued, who briefs your parents in Nepal, and whether the emergency contact speaks Nepali. If you are travelling on a foreign passport while your parents hold Nepali ones, remember that the Thai entry rules may differ for each of you, so check each passport separately against official Thai sources before anyone books a flight.
The one page checklist
- Passport valid for the trip, with blank pages.
- Thai visa arranged for your passport, and TDAC submitted before arrival.
- A card that works in Thailand, plus some cash within Nepal's limit.
- Flight ticketed, with an e-ticket number you have checked yourself.
- Hotels confirmed in your name, ideally checked directly with one hotel.
- Written quote, bills with PAN, and cancellation terms saved together.
- Travel insurance that covers hospital treatment.
- Emergency contacts saved: the company, its Thai partner and Tourist Police 1155.
- A quick read of the dos and don'ts in Thailand and our general pre-trip checklist.
Thailand is a forgiving destination once you land, and the food alone repays the effort. Almost everything that goes wrong on a Thailand trip from Nepal is decided before departure: the card, the visa, the ticket and the company. Still weighing countries? Our Vietnam or Thailand comparison helps. If the checks here pass and you would rather compare ready made routes than build one from scratch, browse Thailand tour packages with this checklist open beside you, and ask any company the same ten questions.
Frequently asked questions
Is it cheaper to book Thailand myself or through an agency?
It depends on what you compare. Booking a Thailand trip yourself can cost less for a simple, flexible trip if you hold an international card. An agency can come out close or cheaper for groups, festival dates and multi stop routes. Compare the same hotels, dates and inclusions, and see our Thailand trip cost from Nepal guide for realistic figures.
How do I know if a travel agency in Nepal is registered?
Ask the agency for its tourism licence, company registration certificate and PAN, and check the names match the company on your bill. In Kathmandu, travel agency licensing is handled by Bagmati Province's Province Tourism Office. There is no public online register that we could find, so check the licence copy's validity date and visit the office before paying.
What is NATTA and TAAN?
NATTA, the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents, is the national trade body for tour and travel agencies, founded in 1966, with a member directory on its website. TAAN, the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal, founded in 1979, represents trekking agencies. For a Thailand holiday, NATTA membership is the relevant one; neither replaces a government licence.
Do I need a visa for Thailand from Nepal?
Yes. Nepali passport holders should plan for a Thai visa before travel. Nepal is not on the visa exemption or visa on arrival lists that took effect on 15 September 2026. Thailand also requires the online Thailand Digital Arrival Card before arrival. Rules change, so check the current requirements on our Thailand visa page before you book flights.
How early should I book a Thailand trip for Dashain?
Book Kathmandu to Bangkok flights for Dashain as soon as your leave and the government holiday dates are confirmed, because festival seats out of Kathmandu fill first. Hotels in Thailand are generally easier to add once the flights are secured. Leave enough time for the Thai visa as well, since a booked Dashain trip without a visa in time cannot go ahead.
What is usually not included in a Thailand package?
A Thailand land package from Nepal usually excludes international flights from Kathmandu, the Thai visa and its fees, travel insurance, meals not listed, optional shows and water sports, tips, and hotel security deposits. Inclusions vary between companies, so ask for a written list of inclusions and exclusions and compare quotes line by line before paying.
Can I pay a Nepali agency in instalments?
Many companies in Nepal accept a deposit with the balance due before travel, but terms differ, so get the schedule in writing. Airfare is the usual exception: airlines need full payment when the ticket is issued. If you pay for a Thailand flight early, ask for the e-ticket number at the same time and verify it on the airline's website.
What should I do if an agency cancels my trip?
Ask the agency in writing for a full explanation and a refund date, and keep every bill and message. If that fails, you can file a complaint with Nepal's Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection online. Compensation claims under the Consumer Protection Act must be made within six months. Clear fraud should be reported to the police.
Can diaspora Nepalis book a Thailand trip from abroad?
Yes. Nepalis living abroad often book a Thailand trip for parents in Nepal or for a family holiday during a visit home. Confirm how the company accepts payment from abroad, whose name goes on the bill, and who briefs your family in Kathmandu. If family members hold different passports, check Thai entry rules for each passport separately.
Which is better for a first trip, Bangkok, Pattaya or Phuket?
For a first Thailand trip from Nepal, Bangkok plus one beach base is the usual choice. Pattaya is a short road trip from Bangkok and suits groups and families on a tight schedule. Phuket is usually reached by a domestic flight and gives a proper island holiday. Our Bangkok, Pattaya or Phuket comparison explains which suits couples, families and friends.
