A Leaner Island-Only Thailand Trip

Unlike Gomayu's longer Bangkok-inclusive Thailand packages, this itinerary skips the capital entirely and focuses purely on Phuket and Krabi, two of Thailand's best known island and beach destinations connected by a short ferry crossing across the Andaman Sea. It suits travelers who've already seen Bangkok, or who simply want a beach-focused trip without a city stop bookending it.

Phuket: Beaches and Old Town

Phuket, Thailand's largest island, offers a mix of beach resort areas and a genuinely historic old town. Patong and Karon are two of the island's most developed beach areas, both well suited as a base with easy access to restaurants, nightlife, and the beach itself. Promthep Cape, at the island's southern tip, is one of Phuket's most popular sunset viewpoints, worth the trip on a clear evening. Away from the beaches, Old Phuket Town's Sino-Portuguese shophouses, concentrated along Thalang Road and Soi Romanee, reflect the island's history as a tin mining and trading hub shaped by Chinese and Portuguese merchant families in the 19th and early 20th centuries, now home to cafes, galleries, and colorful restored facades.

The Phi Phi Islands

The Phi Phi Islands, reached from Phuket's Rassada Pier by speedboat, remain one of the region's most photographed day trips. Maya Bay, on Phi Phi Leh, was made internationally famous by the film The Beach and underwent a multi-year closure and rehabilitation program to help the coral and marine ecosystem recover from overtourism, reopening with visitor limits and restrictions on swimming directly off the beach in some sections. Pileh Lagoon, a sheltered cove ringed by limestone cliffs, offers some of the clearest water in the area for snorkeling, while Monkey Beach, true to its name, is home to a resident troop of long-tailed macaques usually visible from the boat even without stepping ashore.

Crossing to Krabi

The ferry crossing from Phuket to Krabi runs across open water and generally takes a few hours depending on the operator and sea conditions, making a morning departure, as this itinerary uses, the standard approach to arrive with the afternoon still free in Ao Nang.

Krabi's Four Islands and Railay

Krabi's Four Islands tour typically covers Koh Poda, Chicken Island, and Tup Island by longtail boat, with the fourth stop varying by operator, sometimes Phra Nang Cave Beach, sometimes Koh Si, and sometimes Koh Mor, the small island connected to Tup Island by the low-tide sandbar. Chicken Island takes its name from a rock formation resembling a chicken's head, while the sandbar between Tup and Chicken Islands is one of the tour's most photographed stops, submerged at high tide and walkable at low tide. This itinerary finishes the day at Railay and Phra Nang Cave Beach, a peninsula only reachable by boat, known for its towering limestone cliffs that have made it one of Southeast Asia's most established rock climbing destinations, alongside a small shrine at Phra Nang where local fishermen leave offerings for safe voyages.

Building in Free Days

With two dedicated free days on this itinerary, one in Phuket and part of another in Ao Nang, there's genuine room to explore independently. Big Buddha, a roughly 45 meter marble-clad statue on a hilltop, and Wat Chalong, Phuket's largest and most important Buddhist temple, are both popular half day additions from Phuket, while Ao Nang's night market and walkable beachfront give an easy, unstructured evening once settled into Krabi.

Thailand Visa for Nepali Citizens

Nepali passport holders need a Thailand e-Visa applied for online before travel, since visa on arrival isn't available for Nepali citizens. Typical requirements include a passport valid for at least six months, a completed application form, a recent passport size photo, proof of confirmed tour booking, and a bank statement covering the last three months. Gomayu assists with the full visa process, including document review and the online e-Visa application.

Good to Know

Since this itinerary uses a sea crossing rather than a flight between Phuket and Krabi, sea conditions can occasionally affect ferry schedules, particularly outside the dry season, worth building a little flexibility around Day 4 specifically. National Park Fees apply separately for both the Phi Phi Islands and Four Islands tours and are typically paid in cash at each entrance, so it's worth carrying enough Thai Baht to cover both.
