Short answer: The Dubai Mall is the giant shopping and entertainment centre in Downtown Dubai, next to the Burj Khalifa and Burj Lake, with more than 1,200 retail outlets, over 200 places to eat, the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, an Olympic sized ice rink, KidZania and the entrance to At the Top, Burj Khalifa. The free Dubai Fountain show runs on the lake outside: two afternoon shows and then every 30 minutes from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Shops open at 10:00 am every day and close at 11:00 pm from Monday to Thursday and at midnight from Friday to Sunday. The nearest metro stop is Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall on the Red Line, linked to the mall by a covered bridge.
This guide walks you through the mall zone by zone, gives you the current fountain schedule, explains what you can see of the aquarium without a ticket, and shows you how to reach the metro bridge and the Burj Khalifa entrance without getting lost. It is written for first time visitors, families with children or elderly parents, and shoppers, including travellers flying in from Kathmandu and Nepali families who live in the Gulf. Every opening time and show time below was checked on the official websites, and each one is dated so you know how fresh it is. If you are still building your trip, our complete Dubai travel guide covers areas, transport and local rules, and the mall usually sits at the top of any list of the best places to visit in Dubai.

One small naming note before we start. In January 2023 the mall dropped "The" from its brand, and the official website now calls it simply Dubai Mall. Most visitors, maps and taxi drivers still say The Dubai Mall, so both names point to the same place.
What is inside The Dubai Mall?

The Dubai Mall is a set of linked zones spread over four levels: the Lower Ground floor, the Ground floor, the First floor and the Second floor. The headline sights are the aquarium tank and the Waterfall on the Ground floor, Fashion Avenue for luxury shopping, the Ice Rink with Chinatown opposite it, KidZania and the Underwater Zoo on the Second floor, and the lakeside promenade where the fountain plays. Once you know which zone you need, the mall becomes much easier to handle.
The scale is the thing that surprises first time visitors. Wikipedia, citing the original development figures, puts the total internal floor area at about 5.9 million square feet, and the mall says it welcomes more than 100 million visitors a year. That is far more than a quick stop. Most people walk several kilometres in a single visit without noticing, so comfortable shoes matter more than any shopping list.
Zone by zone navigation table
Use this table to plan your route. Levels are taken from the attraction pages on the official mall website, which also name the closest car park for each one. Parking names are useful even if you do not drive, because the signs inside the mall use them.
| Zone or attraction | Level (official listing) | Nearest parking or drop off | What it is | Status on 3 Nov 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai Fountain and lake promenade | Lower Ground (lakeside) | P1 or Cinema Parking | Free choreographed water, music and light show on Burj Lake | Shows running; some lake works under way |
| At the Top, Burj Khalifa entrance | Lower Ground | Fashion Avenue car park (named by At the Top) | Ticketed entrance to the Burj Khalifa observation decks | Open daily |
| Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo | Listed as Second Floor; the tank wall is seen from the Ground floor | P2, Grand Parking | Huge suspended tank, walk through tunnel, zoo with crocodiles, otters and penguins | Open daily |
| Dubai Ice Rink | Ground Floor | P3, Cinema Parking | Olympic sized ice rink for public skating, classes and hockey | Open daily |
| Chinatown | First Floor, opposite the Ice Rink | Chinatown Main Entrance | A wing opened in 2023 with Asian shopping, dining and wellness | Open |
| KidZania | Second Floor | P7, Cinema Parking | Child sized city where children role play real jobs | Open daily |
| Fashion Avenue | Its own wing with a VIP entrance and valet | Fashion Parking | More than 150 luxury shopping and dining experiences | Open |
| The Waterfall | Rises through several floors | See mall map | Indoor waterfall with diving figure sculptures, a classic meeting point | Open |

The Waterfall and the Pearl Divers
The Waterfall is one of the mall's most photographed indoor landmarks and the easiest place to arrange to meet friends or relatives. Water runs down a tall wall that rises through several floors, with silver figures of divers plunging head first down its face, a nod to the pearl diving that shaped life on this coast before oil. Shop balconies on the opposite side give you a view from every level. If your group splits up, "meet at the Waterfall" is a plan everyone can find.
Other things worth knowing about
- More attractions on the official list. The mall's entertainment page currently lists ARTE Museum Dubai (immersive digital art), PlayDXB (the indoor games and virtual reality park that Wikipedia says was renamed from VR Park in 2022), Hysteria (a haunted attraction), Trampo Extreme, Boo Boo Laand, House of Hype and a Soft Play area, alongside the big names above.
- Dubai Dino. A real Diplodocus fossil skeleton, about 24 metres long and over 7 metres tall according to Wikipedia, has been one of the mall's best known photo stops. Check the mall map for its current position.
- An expansion is coming. In June 2024 Emaar announced an expansion of the mall, which was reported at the time to add about 240 new shops and restaurants. Expect some hoarding and changed routes while the work goes on.
When is the Dubai Fountain show?

The Dubai Fountain performs twice in the early afternoon and then every 30 minutes from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm every evening. From Saturday to Thursday the afternoon shows are at 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm; on Friday they move to 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm. Watching from the promenade is free, and you do not need a ticket or a booking.
Dubai Fountain show times
Saturday to Thursday afternoon: 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm
Friday afternoon: 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm
Every evening: every 30 minutes from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pmChecked: 3 November 2026, sources: Dubai Mall Dubai Fountain page and Emaar Dubai Fountain schedule. Times can change for maintenance, Ramadan, Eid, New Year's Eve and special events.
| Day | Afternoon shows | Evening shows | Shows in a full day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saturday | 1:00 pm, 1:30 pm | 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm, every 30 minutes | Up to 13 |
| Sunday to Thursday | 1:00 pm, 1:30 pm | 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm, every 30 minutes | Up to 13 |
| Friday | 2:00 pm, 2:30 pm | 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm, every 30 minutes | Up to 13 |
The count of 13 is simple arithmetic from the official schedule: two afternoon shows plus evening shows at 6:00, 6:30 and so on up to 11:00 pm. The music varies from show to show, from Arabic and classical pieces to international songs, so it is worth staying for two or three in a row.
What makes the fountain special
The fountain sits on Burj Lake, an artificial lake of about 12 hectares at the foot of the Burj Khalifa. It was designed by WET, the California company behind the fountains at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, and was officially inaugurated on 8 May 2009. According to Wikipedia, the system is 275 metres long, is lit by 6,600 lights and 25 colour projectors, and can shoot water up to about 500 feet (152 metres) into the air. Emaar and the mall both describe it as the world's largest choreographed fountain show.
Recent works on the lake
The fountain closed for about five months in 2025 for renovation and reopened on 1 October 2025 with the current schedule. Emaar said a second phase of upgrades would follow in 2026. On 26 October 2026, Gulf News reported that tall silver water installations were being built in Burj Lake between the mall and the Burj Khalifa, that a small section of the waterfront was cordoned off, and that regular shows were continuing. The report added that it was not officially confirmed whether the installations are part of Emaar's second phase or when the work will finish. If you are visiting soon, expect one corner of the promenade to be fenced and pick another viewing spot.
Best places to watch the fountain
| Viewing spot | Ticket needed? | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Waterfront promenade outside the mall | No | The classic close view with the Burj Khalifa behind | Dense crowds on weekend evenings; come 10 minutes early |
| Souk Al Bahar terraces and bridge | No (restaurant tables need a booking) | Wider angle with the tower and lake together | Lakeside tables fill fast at show times |
| Burj Park | No | A calmer, open space with the Burj Khalifa as backdrop | Further from the mall's shops and toilets |
| Dubai Fountain Boardwalk | Ticketed when operating | A floating walkway that takes you close enough to feel the mist | We could not confirm on an official page that it is running during the 2026 lake works; check before you go |
| Fashion Avenue and mall restaurant terraces | No (dining) | Seated views for parents and older relatives | Reserve ahead for show times |
| At the Top, Burj Khalifa | Yes | Looking down on the patterns from above | From that height you lose the music and spray |
Checked: 3 November 2026, source: Emaar's Dubai Fountain article (where to watch) and the Fashion Avenue page for its terrace views.
A practical tip for families from Nepal: the evening shows are the ones people remember, but the 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm shows are usually easier with small children and grandparents than the late ones. In the cooler months the first evening show comes just after dark, so you can see the lights without staying out too late.
Is the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo worth visiting?

Yes, especially for families and first time visitors, and you can decide after a free look. The main tank is visible from the mall's public walkway, so anyone can watch sharks and rays through the giant acrylic wall without a ticket. A ticket is needed for the walk through tunnel, the Underwater Zoo upstairs and the extra animal and diving experiences.
The tank and the viewing panel
The tank holds about 10 million litres of water. When the aquarium opened with the mall in November 2008, Guinness World Records recognised its front panel as the world's largest acrylic panel: 32.88 metres wide, 8.3 metres high and 750 millimetres thick, weighing about 245 tonnes, as Gulf News reported at the time. The tank can be seen from three floors of the mall, and the best free view is from the Ground floor walkway in front of the panel, where children press their faces to the glass as rays glide past.
| Aquarium fact | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Marine species | Over 140 | Dubai Mall official site |
| Sharks and rays in the tank | More than 400 | Dubai Mall official site |
| Walk through tunnel | 270 degree view; about 48 metres long | Dubai Mall official site (angle); Wikipedia (length) |

What the ticket adds
- The tunnel. You walk through the tank with sharks, rays and shoals of fish around and above you. This is the part most visitors photograph.
- The Underwater Zoo. Above the tank, the zoo has crocodiles, otters and penguins, with rainforest and rocky shore zones for smaller animals.
- Extra experiences. The aquarium's own site lists animal encounters, cage snorkelling and diving experiences. These are booked separately and have their own rules and age limits, which are set out on the official site.
Who will enjoy it most
| Visitor | Free panel view | Ticketed tunnel and zoo |
|---|---|---|
| Toddlers and young children | Often enough on its own | Great for animal lovers; strollers make the zoo easier |
| School age children | A good teaser | Usually the highlight of the mall day |
| Couples and solo travellers | Worth a few minutes | Worth it if you enjoy aquariums; skip if short of time |
| Elderly parents | Comfortable and free, with no queue | Fine if they can manage a slow walk |
| Travellers who have seen big aquariums before | Enough for most | Optional |
If you want our honest view: everyone should stop at the panel, because it really is one of the mall's best sights and it costs nothing. Buy the full ticket if you have children, if it is a very hot afternoon, or if you will not be visiting another major aquarium on this trip.
Which family attractions are inside the mall?
The Dubai Mall has enough under one roof to fill a whole family day: the aquarium and zoo, KidZania, the Dubai Ice Rink, cinemas, indoor play areas and the fountain outside. Everything is indoors and air conditioned except the fountain promenade, which makes the mall one of the easiest places in Dubai to spend a hot afternoon with children.
| Attraction | Best ages | Level | Opening hours | Allow |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KidZania | 2 to 16 (official age range) | Second Floor | Sunday to Thursday 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, last entry 9:00 pm; Friday and Saturday 10:00 am to 11:00 pm, last entry 10:00 pm | 3 to 4 hours |
| Dubai Ice Rink | All ages who can stand on skates; classes for tots, kids and adults | Ground Floor | Sunday to Thursday 10:00 am to 10:00 pm; Friday and Saturday 10:00 am to midnight | 1 to 2 hours |
| Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo | All ages | Second Floor listing; tank seen from Ground floor | 10:00 am to 10:00 pm daily | 1 to 2 hours |
| Dubai Fountain | All ages | Lakeside | Afternoon and 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm shows | 30 to 60 minutes |
| PlayDXB, Trampo Extreme, Soft Play, Boo Boo Laand | Varies by attraction | See mall map | See each attraction | 1 to 2 hours |
| Reel Cinemas | Depends on film rating | Cinema wing | Session times on reelcinemas.ae | 2 to 3 hours |
Checked: 3 November 2026, sources: KidZania Dubai official site, Dubai Ice Rink page, Dubai Mall KidZania page. The mall's KidZania page shows 10:00 am to 10:00 pm every day, while KidZania's own site shows later closing on Friday and Saturday; we have used KidZania's own hours. The "Allow" column is our planning estimate, not an official figure.
KidZania
KidZania is a 7,000 square metre scaled down city where children try out real jobs, from working in a hospital or a bank to presenting on a radio station, earning play money as they go. KidZania's official site says it has more than 40 role play activities for children aged 2 to 16. It is ideal for school age children, and many parents use the time for a coffee nearby. Check the official site for the rules on adult supervision for younger children.
Dubai Ice Rink
The Dubai Ice Rink is an Olympic sized rink on the Ground floor, with public skating plus academies for tots, children and adults and an ice hockey programme. For children from Nepal who have never seen ice indoors, it is often the surprise favourite. Session times and rules, such as what to wear, are set by the rink, so check its official channels on the day.
Keeping the day easy with children
- Do one big ticketed attraction, then a free one. KidZania in the morning and the aquarium panel and fountain in the evening is a good balance.
- Borrow a stroller from a Concierge desk if you did not bring one. You will need to leave a valid ID or a deposit, and loaned items must stay inside the mall.
- Agree on a meeting point, such as the Waterfall, and tell children that if they get lost they should ask mall staff or go to the nearest Concierge desk.
- Book the in-mall chauffeur, a free buggy service, at any Concierge desk if little legs or grandparents get tired.
For hotels with family rooms, water parks and age by age ideas across the city, see our guide to planning Dubai with kids.
Where should you shop and eat?
For luxury, head to Fashion Avenue; for big high street names, the main mall corridors and the two department stores; for Asian brands and food, Chinatown; and for an Arabian souk atmosphere with lake views, Souk Al Bahar across the water. For food, the mall has more than 200 dining options, from food courts to restaurants with fountain views, and Indian and vegetarian friendly choices are easy to find.

Shopping by zone
| Zone | Best for | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Fashion Avenue | Designer fashion, fine jewellery and watches | More than 150 luxury shopping and dining experiences; VIP valet, personal shoppers and a terrace facing the fountain |
| Main mall corridors | International high street fashion, electronics, beauty, toys | Use the store directory or app to find a brand before walking |
| Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdale's | Everything in one place, including gifts | The two anchor department stores named by the mall |
| Chinatown | Asian brands, dining and wellness | First floor, opposite the Ice Rink |
| Souk Al Bahar | Arabian style shops, souvenirs, lakeside dining | Over 100 shops and 22 restaurants, cafes and lounges; home to Time Out Market Dubai |
| Metro Link Bridge outlets | Quick snacks and essentials on the way to the train | Same hours as the main shops |

Gold and jewellery are what many Nepali visitors come for. The official store directory has a Jewellery and Watches category and a separate section called The Souk; in 2019 Emaar confirmed that the jewellers in The Souk would keep trading, as Gulf News reported, so check the directory for the shops open now. For the widest choice and the traditional bargaining experience, many shoppers also visit the Gold Souk in Deira. Our Dubai shopping guide compares malls and souks, explains the tourist VAT refund and covers buying gold sensibly. Before buying in quantity, check your baggage allowance and Nepal's customs limits for gold and electronics.
Vegetarian and Indian food
Vegetarian travellers, including many Hindu families from Nepal, eat well at The Dubai Mall. The official dine directory has filters for Indian food, healthy food and Middle Eastern food, and Middle Eastern menus are full of naturally vegetarian dishes such as hummus, falafel, tabbouleh and grilled halloumi. Emaar's own fountain guide names Mausam, a casual fine dining Indian restaurant in Dubai Mall with fountain views, and Time Out Market Dubai in Souk Al Bahar, which gathers 17 chefs and restaurateurs under one roof, as easy picks for groups with mixed tastes.
- Ask about ghee, stock and eggs. If you are strictly vegetarian, Jain or fasting, ask staff what a dish is cooked in. Most restaurants in Dubai are used to the question.
- Food courts suit mixed groups. One person can have Indian, another Lebanese and the children a burger, all at one table.
- Book fountain view tables. Tables facing the lake are in high demand at show times, especially on Friday to Sunday evenings.
- Ramadan. During Ramadan, be considerate about eating and drinking in public view during fasting hours and expect busy food courts after iftar.
For street food, Emirati dishes and more vegetarian and South Asian options across the city, see our guide to what to eat in Dubai.
How do you get to The Dubai Mall by metro?

Take the Dubai Metro Red Line to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station, then follow the signs onto the Metro Link, a covered and air conditioned footbridge that brings you into the mall on Level 2 near the Fashion Catwalk. The station sits between Business Bay and Financial Centre on the Red Line, so it is easy to reach from Dubai Marina, Al Barsha, Deira and the airport's Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 stations.
The walk is the part people underestimate. Wikipedia, citing Emaar's 2012 announcement, gives the Metro Link bridge a length of about 820 metres, and the mall is huge once you arrive. From the train to the fountain or the Burj Khalifa entrance can easily take 15 to 20 minutes at a relaxed pace. It is a long walk for small children and older relatives.
| Step | What to do | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Pay for the ride | Use a Nol card at the gates | Top it up before you reach the gates |
| 2. Ride the Red Line | Get off at Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall | Women and children have dedicated cabins; Gold Class cabins need a Gold Class ticket |
| 3. Take the Metro Link | Follow the "Dubai Mall" signs from the concourse onto the bridge | There are shops and snack outlets along the bridge |
| 4. Enter the mall | You arrive on Level 2 near the Fashion Catwalk | Check the nearest directory screen for your zone |
| 5. Head down for the big sights | Use escalators or lifts to the Ground and Lower Ground floors | Aquarium and Waterfall: Ground floor. Fountain and At the Top: Lower Ground |
Checked: 3 November 2026, sources: Dubai Mall services page (public transport section), RTA Dubai Metro. Metro hours change on public holidays and during Ramadan; check RTA's channels for the day you travel.
Taxi, ride hailing and bus
A taxi or ride hailing car is usually the better choice with elderly parents, small children or shopping bags, because it drops you much closer to the main attractions. The mall's services page lists these points:
- Taxi pick up: P3 Zabeel Parking, at the Zabeel exit.
- Careem and Uber pick up: Lower Ground near du, P3 Cinema Parking, P4 Fashion Lobby and P3 Zabeel Taxi Stand.
- Careem and Uber drop off: P1 Fashion Parking Main Lobby, Chinatown Main Entrance and P3 Zabeel Taxi Stand.
- Priority queue: a special queue serves People of Determination and senior citizens, which is worth knowing at busy times.
- Buses: the Zabeel Tourist Bus pick up area has ticket machines on site.
Tell the driver which entrance you want, such as "Fashion Avenue" for the Burj Khalifa or "Chinatown entrance" for the newer wing. It can save you a long walk inside.
How do you find the Burj Khalifa entrance?
The visitor entrance for At the Top, Burj Khalifa is inside The Dubai Mall, not at the foot of the tower. The official At the Top instructions are to go to the Lower Ground floor of Dubai Mall and use the gate near the Burj Khalifa elevator. Follow the "At the Top" signs and give yourself 15 to 20 minutes to get there, especially if you arrive by metro.
| Arriving from | Route to the At the Top entrance |
|---|---|
| Metro | Metro Link bridge to Level 2, then down to the Lower Ground floor and follow the "At the Top" signs |
| Car | Park in the Fashion Avenue car park, which At the Top names for parking, then go to the Lower Ground floor |
| Taxi or ride hailing | Ask for the Fashion Avenue drop off, then go to the Lower Ground floor |
| Fountain promenade | Walk back into the mall on the lakeside Lower Ground level and follow the signs |
- Arrive early. At the Top asks visitors to arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes before their admission time, and tickets are timed.
- Strollers and bags. Strollers, shopping bags, sports bags and backpacks go into the luggage room near the entrance and are collected on the way out.
- Wheelchairs. The whole At the Top experience is wheelchair accessible, according to the official FAQ.
- Time inside. The official FAQ gives about 1 hour 30 minutes as the average visit.
Checked: 3 November 2026, sources: At the Top experience page and At the Top FAQ.
If you plan to combine the decks with the fountain, book a slot that ends around 6:00 pm, then come down for the first evening show. Our Burj Khalifa guide compares the observation decks, the best time of day to go up and sunset timing by month.
What are The Dubai Mall opening hours and busiest times?
The Dubai Mall's shops open at 10:00 am every day and close at 11:00 pm from Monday to Thursday and at midnight from Friday to Sunday. Restaurants and food courts stay open an hour later: until midnight from Monday to Thursday and until 1:00 am from Friday to Sunday. The busiest times are Friday to Sunday evenings, public holidays, and the weeks of the Dubai Shopping Festival and New Year.
| Area | Monday to Thursday | Friday to Sunday |
|---|---|---|
| All retailers | 10:00 am to 11:00 pm | 10:00 am to midnight |
| Restaurants and food courts | 10:00 am to midnight | 10:00 am to 1:00 am |
| Metro Link Bridge outlets | 10:00 am to 11:00 pm | 10:00 am to midnight |
| Guest Services desks | 10:00 am to 11:00 pm | 10:00 am to midnight |
| Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo | 10:00 am to 10:00 pm | 10:00 am to 10:00 pm |
| Banks | According to Central Bank regulations | |
| Reel Cinemas | See session times on reelcinemas.ae | |
Checked: 3 November 2026, sources: Dubai Mall opening hours page; Guest Services hours from the services page, which says they follow mall operating hours; aquarium hours from the mall's aquarium page. Hours change during Ramadan, Eid, the Dubai Shopping Festival and New Year's Eve; check the official page for your dates.
Notice that a few outlets at Souk Al Bahar run on a different weekly pattern on the same official page, with Sunday to Wednesday and Thursday to Saturday hours, and the SAB supermarket opens from 7:00 am. If you need something early, that is the place to look.
When to go, and when to avoid
| Time | What to expect | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday mornings, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm | The quietest time inside the mall | Shopping, the aquarium and KidZania with fewer queues |
| Afternoons | Steady crowds; the 1:00 pm or 2:00 pm fountain shows | Escaping the midday heat |
| Evenings from 6:00 pm | Busy promenade during fountain shows | Fountain, dinner and the lights |
| Friday to Sunday evenings | The busiest period of the week | Atmosphere, if you do not mind crowds |
| Dubai Shopping Festival (winter) and New Year | Very busy; New Year's Eve brings road closures around Downtown | Sales, events and fireworks, with careful planning |
The "what to expect" column is general guidance from how the city's week and festival calendar work, not official crowd data. Saturday and Sunday are the UAE weekend, so Friday evening to Sunday evening is when residents fill the malls.
Ramadan, Eid and the Dashain and Tihar season
During Ramadan, Dubai's malls usually change their hours and often stay open later into the night, with the busiest period after iftar. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, subject to moon sighting, so check the official hours closer to the time. Many Nepali travellers come in October and November around Dashain and Tihar, when Dubai's weather is starting to cool and the outdoor fountain promenade becomes pleasant again. That is also when hotel demand rises, so plan the mall around your flights and stay rather than the other way round.
What services, prayer rooms and house rules should you know?
The Dubai Mall has free Wi-Fi, separate prayer rooms for men and women throughout the mall, Concierge desks that lend wheelchairs and strollers, a free in-mall buggy service, luggage storage and a lost and found office. Its posted house rules cover dress, smoking, pets, boards and scooters. Knowing these makes a long day much easier, especially with children or elderly parents.
| Service | What the mall offers | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Prayer rooms | Separate facilities for men and women throughout the mall | Mall app, Touchmaps screens or a Concierge desk |
| Wheelchairs and strollers | Loaned against a valid ID or deposit; must stay inside the mall | Concierge desks; return to Guest Services |
| In-mall chauffeur | Free buggy service across the mall | Book at any Concierge desk |
| Free Wi-Fi | Network named "@Dubai Mall by Emaar" | Throughout the mall |
| Luggage concierge | Bag storage under 24 hour CCTV, plus a counter offering airport check in and boarding passes | Ask at a Concierge desk |
| Lost and found | Office for items misplaced in the mall | Lower Ground floor, next to FAB |
| Mall directories | Interactive digital maps, printed brochures and the Dubai Mall app | Directory screens and Concierge desks |
| Shop and Drop | Delivery of your shopping within the mall or across the UAE | Concierge desks |
Checked: 3 November 2026, source: Dubai Mall services page (linked above).
House rules
- Dress code. The mall lists a dress code among its house rules. Covering shoulders and knees is a safe choice, and swimwear belongs at the beach.
- No smoking inside the mall.
- No pets.
- No boards or scooters, so leave skateboards and kick scooters at the hotel.
The luggage concierge is a useful trick on your last day. If your flight home to Kathmandu leaves in the evening, you can store your bags, spend the day at the mall and the fountain, and head to the airport from there. Check your departure terminal: Terminal 2, which flydubai uses for many flights, has no metro station, so plan a taxi if you leave from there.
How should you plan a day at The Dubai Mall?
Plan The Dubai Mall as a half day or full day outing built around the fountain: spend the hot middle of the day inside, visit the Burj Khalifa late in the afternoon if you are going up, and finish with dinner and two or three evening fountain shows. With children, swap the decks for KidZania or the aquarium. With just two or three hours, focus on the Waterfall, the aquarium panel, one zone of shops and one fountain show.
| Time you have | What fits | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| 2 to 3 hours | Waterfall, free aquarium panel, one shopping zone, one evening fountain show | Stopover passengers and short trips |
| Half a day | Aquarium tunnel or Ice Rink, lunch, shopping, early evening fountain shows | Couples, first timers, older relatives |
| Full day | KidZania or the aquarium, lunch, Fashion Avenue or Chinatown, At the Top before sunset, dinner and fountain shows | Families and keen shoppers |
| Two visits | One daytime shopping visit, one evening for the Burj Khalifa and fountain | Anyone staying in Downtown Dubai |
Planning notes for travellers from Nepal
- Flights. Non-stop flights from Kathmandu to Dubai take about 4 hours 40 minutes to 5 hours 15 minutes; flydubai lists about 4 hours 50 minutes for the 2,987 km route. Our guide to Kathmandu to Dubai flights covers airlines, terminals and the time difference.
- Time difference. Dubai (UTC+4) is 1 hour 45 minutes behind Nepal (UTC+5:45) all year, so a 6:00 pm fountain show is 7:45 pm in Kathmandu. That is handy when you video call family at home.
- Money. Prices are in UAE dirhams (AED), and cards and mobile payments work almost everywhere in the mall. Keep receipts for any VAT refund.
- Visas. Entry rules depend on your passport and change from time to time. Start with our visa guidance page and confirm on the UAE's official portals before you book.
- Family in the Gulf. If relatives working in the UAE are meeting you, the Waterfall or the fountain promenade are easy meeting points that everyone can find from the metro or a taxi.
If you would rather have flights, hotel and transfers arranged together, you can compare Dubai tour packages and add The Dubai Mall and the fountain to your own plan.
Frequently asked questions
What time is the Dubai Fountain show?
The Dubai Fountain runs two afternoon shows, at 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm from Saturday to Thursday and at 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm on Friday, then evening shows every 30 minutes from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm daily. This schedule was checked on the official Dubai Mall and Emaar pages on 3 November 2026. Times can change during Ramadan, Eid, New Year's Eve or maintenance.
Can you see the Dubai Aquarium without a ticket?
Yes. The main Dubai Aquarium tank faces the public walkway inside The Dubai Mall, so you can watch sharks, rays and shoals of fish through its huge acrylic panel for free, best from the Ground floor. A ticket is needed only for the walk through tunnel, the Underwater Zoo with its crocodiles, otters and penguins, and extra experiences such as animal encounters.
How late is The Dubai Mall open?
The Dubai Mall's shops close at 11:00 pm from Monday to Thursday and at midnight from Friday to Sunday, opening at 10:00 am every day. Restaurants and food courts stay open until midnight on weekdays and until 1:00 am from Friday to Sunday. Hours change during Ramadan, Eid and festivals, so check the official opening hours page for your dates.
Which metro station is closest to The Dubai Mall?
The closest station to The Dubai Mall is Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall on the Dubai Metro Red Line. From the station, the Metro Link, a covered and air conditioned footbridge of about 820 metres, brings you into the mall on Level 2 near the Fashion Catwalk. Allow 15 to 20 minutes on foot from the train to the fountain or the Burj Khalifa entrance.
Where is the Burj Khalifa entrance inside The Dubai Mall?
The At the Top, Burj Khalifa entrance is on the Lower Ground floor of The Dubai Mall, at the gate near the Burj Khalifa elevator, according to the official At the Top site. Follow the "At the Top" signs, or park in the Fashion Avenue car park, which At the Top recommends. Arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes before your timed slot.
Is there an ice rink in The Dubai Mall?
Yes. The Dubai Ice Rink is an Olympic sized rink on the Ground floor of The Dubai Mall, with public skating, skating academies for tots, children and adults, and an ice hockey programme. The mall lists its hours as 10:00 am to 10:00 pm from Sunday to Thursday and 10:00 am to midnight on Friday and Saturday, checked on 3 November 2026.
Is The Dubai Mall good for kids?
The Dubai Mall is one of the best places in Dubai for children, because almost everything is indoors and air conditioned. Families can combine the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, KidZania for ages 2 to 16, the Dubai Ice Rink, indoor play areas and the free fountain show. Concierge desks lend strollers, and a free in-mall buggy helps tired legs.
Can you watch the Dubai Fountain from a boat?
Traditional abra boat rides on Burj Lake have been sold for the Dubai Fountain shows in the past, and Emaar lists the Dubai Fountain Boardwalk, a floating walkway, as a viewing spot. With works under way on the lake in late October 2026, we could not confirm on an official page that either is running now, so check before planning around them. The promenade view is always free.
Are there vegetarian restaurants in The Dubai Mall?
Yes. The Dubai Mall has many vegetarian friendly options, and its dine directory lets you filter for Indian, healthy and Middle Eastern food. Indian restaurants such as Mausam, which Emaar lists with fountain views, have full vegetarian menus, and Middle Eastern mezze like hummus and falafel is naturally vegetarian. Strict vegetarians should ask about ghee, stock and eggs.
How long do you need at The Dubai Mall?
Plan at least half a day at The Dubai Mall to see the Waterfall, the aquarium, some shops and an evening fountain show without rushing. Families doing KidZania or the aquarium tunnel, and visitors combining the Burj Khalifa with dinner and the fountain, usually need a full day. With only two or three hours, focus on the free sights.
Is The Dubai Mall the same as Dubai Mall?
Yes. The Dubai Mall changed its brand name to Dubai Mall in January 2023, and the official website now uses the shorter name. Signs, maps, taxi drivers and most travellers still use both names for the same shopping centre in Downtown Dubai, beside the Burj Khalifa. Use either name when booking a taxi or searching a map app.
