Short answer: A Thailand honeymoon suits most couples because one country gives you two sea coasts, island resorts, evenings in Bangkok and cool hills around Chiang Mai, and Bangkok is about three and a half hours nonstop from Kathmandu. The key decision is matching the coast to your wedding month. The Andaman side (Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi) is the drier choice from December to February. The Gulf side (Koh Samui) has its wettest months in November and December and comes good from February, and both coasts are fairly dry in February and March. Checked: 28 Oct 2026, Thai Meteorological Department climate normals.
This guide is written for couples who marry in the Nepali wedding season, from Mangsir through Falgun, and want to know which island, which coast and which add-on city fits the dates they already have. The weather advice works wherever you fly from, so it is just as useful for couples in the diaspora meeting family in Bangkok. For the country basics, start with our Thailand travel guide, and if you are still choosing between countries, our list of honeymoon destinations from Nepal compares Thailand with Bali, the Maldives, Vietnam and others.

Is Thailand good for a honeymoon?

Yes. Thailand is one of the easiest honeymoon countries to reach from Nepal, and it gives couples more variety in one trip than most island destinations. You can spend a few nights on a beach, take a boat between limestone islands, eat well every evening and still have a city or mountain stop if you want one. Few places within a short flight of Kathmandu offer that mix.
Four things make it work for newly married couples:
- Short, simple routing. Thai Airways flies nonstop between Kathmandu and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, and from Bangkok short domestic flights reach Phuket, Krabi and Koh Samui. After the long days of a Nepali wedding, a short first flight matters.
- Two coasts with different weather. The Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand have different rainy months, so there is almost always a side that suits your dates. The month table further down shows exactly how this lines up with the wedding calendar.
- A wide range of stays. Couples can choose anything from a simple beach bungalow to a resort villa with its own pool, and mix the two in one trip.
- Experiences built for two. Island hopping, sunset viewpoints, spa time and night markets are all easy to arrange. Thai massage is so central to the culture that UNESCO added Nuad Thai, traditional Thai massage, to its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2019 (UNESCO).
Thailand is not the right fit for every couple, and it helps to be honest about that before you plan.
| A Thailand honeymoon suits you if | Look elsewhere if |
|---|---|
| You want beaches plus things to do: boat trips, markets, food, a city night | You want total seclusion on a private island with nothing else nearby |
| You like choosing between lively and quiet areas | You dislike busy piers and day-trip crowds at famous spots |
| You want a short flight from Kathmandu | You only want an over-water villa stay |
| You are happy with some planning around sea conditions | Your only free dates fall in October, when both coasts are wet |
If total seclusion is the priority, read our guide to a honeymoon in the Maldives. If you are torn between two similar island countries, our Bali honeymoon guide covers the closest alternative.
Which Thai islands are best for couples?

There is no single best place in Thailand for a honeymoon; the best island depends on the mood you want: Phuket for choice and convenience, Krabi for cliffs and sunsets, Phi Phi for postcard scenery, Koh Samui for resort time on the Gulf side, and Koh Lanta for a slower pace. Chiang Mai is not an island, but it belongs in the same decision because many couples pair it with a beach. Our full ranking of the best islands in Thailand goes deeper; this table is the honeymoon view.
| Place | Coast | Mood | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phuket | Andaman | Lively, the most choice | First trips, mixing beach, food and day trips | Patong is busy; pick a quieter beach for your hotel |
| Krabi (Ao Nang, Railay) | Andaman | Limestone cliffs, slower evenings | Sunsets, island hopping, couples who like the outdoors | Peak season around New Year fills early |
| Phi Phi | Andaman | Small island, famous bays | One or two nights, or a day trip | Day-trip boats crowd the bays; no swimming at Maya Bay |
| Koh Samui | Gulf | Resort-focused, calmer | Villa stays from February to April | November and December are its wettest months |
| Koh Lanta | Andaman | Quiet, unhurried | Couples who want to switch off | Quiet also means fewer nightlife options |
| Chiang Mai | North (inland) | Cool air, temples, culture | December and January, Loy Krathong in November | Smoke and haze, worst in March and April |
Phuket: the easy all-rounder
Phuket is the simplest choice for a first honeymoon abroad. It has the widest range of hotels, it is a short flight from Bangkok, and boats leave from here for Phi Phi and other islands. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) highlights Laem Phromthep, the island's southernmost cape, as a sunset spot, and Old Phuket Town for its Sino-Portuguese shophouses, small museums and cafés. Patong is a busy, well-known beach; TAT describes Hat Surin and Hat Laem Sing as calmer, and Hat Nai Yang sits inside Sirinath National Park. Our guide to things to do in Phuket covers the island in detail.
Krabi: cliffs, longtail boats and sunsets
Krabi feels slower than Phuket. Most couples stay around Ao Nang, which TAT describes as the main launch point for boat trips to nearby islands and calls Ao Nang Beach a well-known spot for watching the last light. Railay, with its three coastlines and climbing cliffs, is about 20 minutes from Ao Nang according to TAT. From Krabi you can also visit the Hong Islands in Than Bok Khorani National Park, and Thale Waek, where a sandbar appears at low tide and links three small islands. TAT advises booking early for the peak stretch from late December to early January.
Phi Phi: famous views, best in small doses
Phi Phi is two main islands, Phi Phi Don, where the hotels are, and Phi Phi Le, home of Maya Bay. It is beautiful, but by day the bays fill with boats from Phuket and Krabi. Many couples are happier with one or two nights on Phi Phi Don, or a day trip from a quieter base. Maya Bay closes every August and September to let the beach recover. It reopened on 1 October 2026, and swimming there remains banned under the park's rules (Checked: 28 Oct 2026, TAT News of 20 Oct 2026 and Time Out Bangkok of 29 Sep 2026). Our Phi Phi Islands guide covers boats, viewpoints and where to stay.
Koh Samui: villas on the Gulf side
Koh Samui is the main honeymoon island on the Gulf of Thailand. It suits couples who want a resort or villa, calm evenings and the Friday night walking street at Fisherman's Village in Bophut. Its weather runs on a different calendar from Phuket's, which is the most important thing to know before you book. Our Koh Samui guide covers beaches and areas.
Koh Lanta: for couples who want quiet
Koh Lanta is part of Krabi province and partly inside Mu Ko Lanta National Park, which also includes the snorkelling islands of Ko Rok Nok and Ko Rok Nai. It is a good choice for the second half of a trip, after a few busier nights in Phuket or Ao Nang. Park islands such as Ko Rok are part of the Andaman group that the national parks department has closed from mid-May to mid-October in past seasons, so plan them for the dry months.
Andaman or Gulf coast: which side for your wedding month?

For a Mangsir wedding, choose the Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi); for Magh and Falgun, either coast works; for a Baisakh wedding, the Gulf coast (Koh Samui) is the safer bet. The reason is the monsoon. Thailand's official climate summaries describe a rainy season from mid-May to mid-October under the southwest monsoon, and the Thai Meteorological Department's (TMD) rainfall normals show it hits the Andaman side hardest. The southern east coast, where Koh Samui sits, is the exception: there, abundant rain continues to the end of the year under the northeast monsoon, and November is the wettest month.
The table below overlays the Nepali wedding calendar on TMD's 1991 to 2020 rainfall normals for Southern Thailand. "West coast" is the Andaman side; "east coast" is the Gulf side. Nepali month dates are for 2083 BS (2026 to 2027).
| Nepali month | Dates | Wedding season? | Andaman side: normal rain and rainy days | Gulf side: normal rain and rainy days | Better side |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mangsir 2083 | 17 Nov to 15 Dec 2026 | Main wedding month | Nov 193.1 mm, 16.7 days; Dec 91.5 mm, 10.5 days | Nov 361.4 mm, 16.1 days; Dec 296.0 mm, 12.7 days | Andaman, clearly |
| Poush 2083 | 16 Dec 2026 to 14 Jan 2027 | Traditionally not favoured | Dec 91.5 mm; Jan 50.2 mm, 5.6 days | Dec 296.0 mm; Jan 112.0 mm, 8.0 days | Andaman |
| Magh 2083 | 15 Jan to 12 Feb 2027 | Wedding month | Jan 50.2 mm; Feb 30.2 mm, 3.9 days | Jan 112.0 mm; Feb 44.2 mm, 3.9 days | Andaman in January, either by February |
| Falgun 2083 | 13 Feb to 14 Mar 2027 | Wedding month | Feb 30.2 mm; Mar 103.6 mm, 8.1 days | Feb 44.2 mm; Mar 89.8 mm, 5.7 days | Either |
| Chaitra | Mid-March to mid-April | No weddings held | Mar 103.6 mm; Apr 162.2 mm, 13.1 days | Mar 89.8 mm; Apr 85.9 mm, 7.0 days | Gulf |
| Baisakh | Mid-April to mid-May | Wedding month | Apr 162.2 mm; May 300.6 mm, 19.6 days | Apr 85.9 mm; May 132.6 mm, 13.4 days | Gulf |
Rainfall normals: TMD three-month climate outlooks, which list 1991 to 2020 normals for each region (TMD outlook, December 2025 to February 2026). Nepali month dates: Nepali calendar for 2083 BS. Wedding season notes: Nepal's auspicious wedding dates (sait) are set each year by astrologers and the Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti, and the number of dates in each month changes from year to year, so check this year's sait before you fix the honeymoon. Checked: 28 Oct 2026.
What the overlay means in practice
- Mangsir couples should head west. In November and December the Gulf side gets roughly two to three times the rain of the Andaman side, and the gap is widest in December, when most Mangsir honeymoons actually start.
- Late November is still a transition month on the Andaman side, with rain on about 17 days in a normal November. If your wedding is early in Mangsir, a few nights in Bangkok or Chiang Mai first and the beach in December is a sensible order.
- Magh and Falgun couples can pick either coast on mood rather than weather. February is the driest month on both sides.
- Baisakh couples should look at Koh Samui first. By May the Andaman side is entering its rainy season, with rain on about 20 days in a normal month.
These are long-term averages for each coast as a whole, not a forecast for your island or your dates. Individual years vary: TMD's outlook for December 2025 expected rain well above normal on both coasts, while its outlook for November 2026 expects near normal rain on the Andaman side and about 20 percent below normal on the Gulf side. Check TMD's forecast in the week before you fly.
The full year, coast by coast
If your dates are outside the wedding season, for example a delayed honeymoon around Dashain or Tihar, use the full year below. Our guide to the best time to visit Thailand adds Bangkok and the north.
| Month | Andaman side (west coast) normal rain | Gulf side (east coast) normal rain | Drier side |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 50.2 mm, 5.6 rainy days | 112.0 mm, 8.0 rainy days | Andaman |
| February | 30.2 mm, 3.9 rainy days | 44.2 mm, 3.9 rainy days | Both dry |
| March | 103.6 mm, 8.1 rainy days | 89.8 mm, 5.7 rainy days | Both fairly dry |
| April | 162.2 mm, 13.1 rainy days | 85.9 mm, 7.0 rainy days | Gulf |
| May | 300.6 mm, 19.6 rainy days | 132.6 mm, 13.4 rainy days | Gulf |
| June | 335.5 mm, 18.8 rainy days | 118.7 mm, 13.8 rainy days | Gulf |
| July | 349.4 mm, 19.6 rainy days | 119.6 mm, 14.8 rainy days | Gulf |
| August | 419.2 mm, 20.4 rainy days | 130.6 mm, 15.3 rainy days | Gulf |
| September | 429.2 mm, 21.8 rainy days | 147.0 mm, 16.2 rainy days | Gulf |
| October | 368.8 mm, 22.7 rainy days | 253.6 mm, 18.7 rainy days | Neither is dry |
| November | 193.1 mm, 16.7 rainy days | 361.4 mm, 16.1 rainy days | Andaman |
| December | 91.5 mm, 10.5 rainy days | 296.0 mm, 12.7 rainy days | Andaman |
Source: TMD three-month outlooks issued between 2025 and 2026, 1991 to 2020 normals for Southern Thailand East Coast and West Coast. Checked: 28 Oct 2026. Note that October is wet on both sides, which is why a Dashain honeymoon to the islands needs flexible plans.
Marine park closures that affect honeymoon plans
Weather is not the only thing that changes with the season. Several marine national parks close for part of the year to protect reefs and because of rough seas.
| Park or site | Coast | Usual closure | Current status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mu Ko Similan and Mu Ko Surin | Andaman | Mid-May to mid-October (2026 closure: 16 May to 15 October) | Similan reopened 15 Oct 2026, with the season scheduled to 15 May 2027; Surin's 2026 closure was also set to end in mid-October, so confirm boats before booking |
| Maya Bay, Phi Phi Le | Andaman | August and September | Reopened 1 Oct 2026; swimming not allowed |
| Mu Ko Ang Thong, near Koh Samui | Gulf | 1 November to 15 December in 2025 (last year's dates) | Trade notices report the same dates for 2026, but the official 2026 park notice was not found on 28 Oct 2026; check before booking |
Sources: Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation notice for 2025 via the Thailand Public Relations Department; Thairath, 15 May 2026 (Similan and Surin 2026 closure); TAT News, 20 Oct 2026 (Similan and Maya Bay reopening); Pattaya Mail, 18 Oct 2026 (Similan season end); Time Out Bangkok, 29 Sep 2026 (Maya Bay swimming rule); travel trade notices of 27 Oct 2025 and 25 Sep 2026 (Ang Thong). Checked: 28 Oct 2026. The Ang Thong window matters for Mangsir couples on Koh Samui: if the 2026 closure follows last year's dates, it overlaps almost exactly with Mangsir, so the most popular day trip from Samui may not be possible on your dates.
What romantic experiences can couples enjoy?

The experiences most couples remember are island hopping by boat, a sunset from a headland or a boat deck, a long spa afternoon, and evenings at night markets. Thailand makes all four easy, and you can usually book them a day or two ahead once you see the weather.
| Experience | Where | Best months | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Island hopping | Krabi (Hong Islands, Thale Waek), Phuket to Phi Phi, Samui to Ang Thong | Andaman: December to March; Gulf: February to April | Boats depend on sea conditions; park islands have closure seasons |
| Sunset viewpoints | Laem Phromthep (Phuket), Ao Nang Beach (Krabi) | Dry months on each coast | Arrive early; both are popular |
| Sunset boat trip | Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui | Dry months | Choose an established operator and wear the life jacket provided |
| Spa and Thai massage | Everywhere, from resort spas to small massage shops | Any month | A good plan for rainy afternoons |
| Night markets | Phuket Old Town, Fisherman's Village (Samui), Chiang Mai | Any month; check the market day | Some run on one night a week only |
| Snorkelling and diving | Similan Islands, Ko Rok, Coral Island off Phuket | Andaman dry season | Similan's season opened 15 Oct 2026 and is scheduled to run to 15 May 2027 |
| Loy Krathong | Nationwide; Chiang Mai for Yi Peng lanterns | 24 Nov 2026 | Falls inside Mangsir this year |
Island hopping
From Krabi, the classic couple's day is a longtail or speedboat trip to Ko Hong, an islet inside Than Bok Khorani National Park whose front beach curves in a near half circle, according to TAT, or to Thale Waek, where a sand path appears at low tide and connects Ko Kai, Ko Thap and Ko Mo. From Phuket, Coral Island is a short hop of about 10 to 15 minutes by speedboat from Chalong Pier, according to TAT, and is easy for couples who are new to snorkelling. Phi Phi is reachable from both Phuket and Krabi. Remember that boats on the Andaman side are less reliable from May to October.
Sunsets and a sunset cruise
TAT names Laem Phromthep at Phuket's southern tip and Ao Nang Beach in Krabi as sunset spots, and both are good for a first evening. A sunset boat trip is the more private version, and trips are widely sold in the main beach areas. Ask how many guests share the boat, and keep the evening after it free for a quiet dinner rather than a long transfer.
Spa time
A couple's massage is the easiest romantic plan in Thailand, and it fills a rainy afternoon perfectly. Traditional Thai massage, Nuad Thai, is recognised by UNESCO as part of Thailand's living heritage. Resort spas offer couples' rooms; smaller massage shops in town are simpler. Tell the therapist about any injuries or pregnancy before you start.
Night markets
Markets are where many couples have their best food of the trip. In Phuket, TAT lists the Lat Yai market in Old Phuket Town on Sundays. On Koh Samui, the Fisherman's Village walking street in Bophut runs on Friday nights and Lamai's street market on Sundays, according to Bangkok Airways' Samui guide. In Chiang Mai, the Sunday Walking Street starts at 5pm on Ratchadamnoen Road from Tha Phae Gate, according to TAT. Market days can change, so confirm locally. Our guide to Thailand's markets has more.
Loy Krathong for Mangsir couples
Loy Krathong falls on the full moon of the twelfth Thai lunar month, which is Tuesday 24 November 2026 (Checked: 28 Oct 2026, Thai calendar for 2569). People float small decorated baskets on rivers, canals and the sea, and in Chiang Mai the Yi Peng lantern festival is held around the same full moon. For a couple married early in Mangsir, it is a memorable first evening abroad. Lantern rules are strict and announced locally each year, so check the local notice for your dates; our Thailand lantern festival guide explains how the two festivals differ.
Should you add Bangkok or Chiang Mai?

Add Bangkok if you want one or two nights of temples, river views and shopping, which is easy because almost every trip from Kathmandu lands there anyway. Add Chiang Mai if your dates fall between November and February and you want cool air and culture alongside the beach. Most couples with seven nights or fewer are happier with one add-on, not both.
Bangkok: one or two nights
The afternoon Thai Airways departure from Kathmandu lands in Bangkok in the early evening, so many couples spend their first night there anyway. With a full day you can see the Grand Palace, which opens daily at 8:30am and sells tickets until 3:30pm (Checked: 28 Oct 2026, royalgrandpalace.th), cross the Chao Phraya to Wat Arun, and spend the evening on the river or in a mall. Bangkok also works well at the end of the trip for shopping before the flight home. See our list of places to visit in Bangkok, and if you are deciding between a beach city and an island, read Bangkok, Pattaya or Phuket.
Chiang Mai: cool months, temples and lanterns
Chiang Mai is in the north, and Thailand's official climate summary describes December and January as cool in upper Thailand. That makes it a good contrast to the beach for Mangsir and Magh couples. Late November brings Loy Krathong and Yi Peng. The caution is air quality later in the dry season: NASA's Earth Observatory reports that smoke from burning in northern Thailand is worst in March and April, with fire activity usually peaking in March. A Falgun honeymoon that runs into March should keep Chiang Mai short or skip it. Our guide to things to do in Chiang Mai covers the city.
The split-stay tip
A split stay means two bases in one trip, usually a livelier place first and a quiet, more romantic stay at the end. It gives you variety without many transfers. These combinations work well:
| Split stay | How you move between them | Best for wedding month |
|---|---|---|
| Bangkok, then Phuket | Domestic flight | Mangsir, Poush, Magh, Falgun |
| Phuket, then Krabi or Phi Phi | By road, or by boat with a night on Phi Phi in between | Mangsir to Falgun |
| Phuket, then Koh Samui | Direct Bangkok Airways flight, about 1 hour | Falgun, when both coasts are dry |
| Bangkok, then Koh Samui | Direct Bangkok Airways flight, about 1 hour 30 minutes | Falgun, Chaitra, Baisakh |
| Chiang Mai, then an Andaman island | Domestic flights | Mangsir and Magh |
Flight times: Bangkok Airways route pages and Samui guide. Checked: 28 Oct 2026. Keep each base to at least three nights; one-night stops spend most of the honeymoon on transfers.
What should vegetarian couples and temple visitors know?
Vegetarian couples eat well in Thailand, but they need to ask clearly, because many Thai dishes are seasoned with fish sauce or pastes made with dried seafood. Temple visits need covered shoulders and legs. Both are easy once you know the rules.
Vegetarian dining tips
- Look for the yellow "je" flags. Restaurants serving vegetarian dishes display yellow flags marked "je" in Thai, as the MICHELIN Guide notes for Bangkok's Chinatown.
- Ask about sauces, not just meat. A vegetable stir-fry can still contain fish sauce or oyster sauce, and many chilli pastes contain dried seafood. "Mai sai nam pla" means "no fish sauce".
- Say "no egg" if you need to. Some vegetarians from Nepal also avoid eggs, and Thai fried rice and noodle dishes often include one unless you ask.
- Use the cities for variety. Bangkok has dedicated vegetarian and vegan restaurants; the MICHELIN Guide's feature on vegetarian dining in Thailand names Veganerie, where nothing on the menu contains animal products.
- Tell your hotel early. Resort kitchens can plan vegetarian breakfasts and a special dinner if they know in advance, which helps on smaller islands with fewer restaurants.
Temple dress note
Temples and the Grand Palace expect modest dress. The Grand Palace states that visitors must dress appropriately because it is a place of reverence, and it does not allow sleeveless shirts, vests, see-through tops, short or tight trousers, or mini skirts (Checked: 28 Oct 2026, royalgrandpalace.th, practical information). Pack a light shawl and a pair of long trousers or a long skirt for temple days; honeymoon beachwear will not pass the gate. Our list of dos and don'ts in Thailand covers other etiquette.
How many days does a Thailand honeymoon need?
Six to ten nights suits most couples: six nights is enough for one island with a night in Bangkok, while eight to ten nights lets you split the beach or add Chiang Mai. Fewer than five nights works only if you stay on one island and skip the city.
| Length | Shape of the trip | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| 4 to 5 nights | One island only, or Bangkok and one nearby beach | Couples with limited leave |
| 6 to 7 nights | One night in Bangkok and one island base | Most first honeymoons |
| 8 to 10 nights | Bangkok plus a split stay on two islands, or one island plus Chiang Mai | Couples who want variety |
| 11 nights or more | Two coasts, or north plus two islands, at a slow pace | Diaspora couples combining a honeymoon with family visits |
Two planning habits save a lot of time. First, count travel days honestly: the evening arrival from Kathmandu and any island change each take most of half a day. Second, leave one unplanned day on the beach in case a boat trip is cancelled by sea conditions. For sample routes of different lengths, see our Thailand itinerary guide.
How do you get there from Kathmandu?
Fly nonstop from Kathmandu to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, then take a short domestic flight to Phuket, Krabi or Koh Samui. Thai Airways flies the route nonstop, with a scheduled time of about 3 hours 30 minutes; its afternoon departure lands in Bangkok in the early evening, and schedule data also shows a late night departure that arrives early in the morning. Nepal Airlines has also scheduled the route on selected days of the week (Checked: 28 Oct 2026, flight schedule records; times are approximate and change by season). Our Kathmandu to Bangkok flight guide tracks who is flying and when.
| Leg | How | Approximate time | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kathmandu to Bangkok | Nonstop flight to Suvarnabhumi (BKK) | About 3 hours 30 minutes scheduled | Flight schedule records, October 2026 |
| Bangkok to Koh Samui | Direct Bangkok Airways flight | About 1 hour 30 minutes | Bangkok Airways |
| Bangkok to Koh Samui by land and sea | Train or bus to Surat Thani, then ferry from Donsak Pier | Roughly 9 to 12 hours in total | Bangkok Airways guide |
| Phuket to Koh Samui | Direct Bangkok Airways flight | About 1 hour | Bangkok Airways |
| Phuket (Rassada Pier) to Phi Phi | Ferry or speedboat | About 1 to 2 hours depending on boat | Ferry booking timetables |
| Krabi (Khlong Chilat Pier) to Phi Phi | Ferry | About 2 hours | TAT |
Checked: 28 Oct 2026. Boat times on the Andaman side depend on sea conditions, and services are reduced or cancelled in rough weather.
A few routing points matter for honeymooners:
- Plan the first night in Bangkok. With an early evening arrival on the afternoon flight, connecting to an island the same night is tight. A hotel near the airport or in the city, then a morning domestic flight, is calmer after the wedding rush.
- Book wedding-season dates early. Your dates are fixed by the sait, so you have less room to move if seats or rooms run short. TAT flags late December to early January as peak season in Krabi.
- Connections are a fallback. One-stop routes through hubs such as Delhi, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore exist, but they add hours. They make sense mainly if nonstop seats are sold out or you want a stopover. Our list of direct flights from Kathmandu shows which routes run nonstop.
- Sort entry rules before you book. Requirements for Nepali passport holders change; read our Thailand visa page for the current position.
What are the next steps for planning your Thailand honeymoon?
Start with your wedding date, then choose the coast, then the bases, and only then the hotels. Working in that order avoids the most common mistake: booking a beautiful villa on the wrong side of the country for your month.
- Confirm the wedding date and travel window. Note which Nepali month it falls in and how much leave you both have.
- Pick the coast from the overlay table. Mangsir and Poush point west to the Andaman side; Magh and Falgun can go either way; Chaitra and Baisakh point east to Koh Samui.
- Choose one or two bases. Use the island and mood table, and keep each base to three nights or more.
- Decide on Bangkok or Chiang Mai. One add-on is plenty for a week; check Chiang Mai air quality if you travel in March.
- Check closures and festivals. Maya Bay, Similan, Surin and Ang Thong all have closure seasons; Loy Krathong is 24 November 2026.
- Plan food and dress. Tell hotels about vegetarian needs and pack modest clothes for temple days.
- Check entry rules and book flights. Read the visa page, then secure Kathmandu to Bangkok seats early in wedding season.

Frequently asked questions
Is Thailand good for a honeymoon?
Yes. A Thailand honeymoon combines beaches, island boat trips, spa time, good food and an optional city or mountain stop, all within about three and a half hours' nonstop flight from Kathmandu to Bangkok. Its two coasts have different rainy seasons, so most wedding months have a side with good weather. It suits couples who want variety more than total seclusion.
Which island in Thailand is best for honeymoon?
It depends on your month and mood. Phuket offers the most choice, Krabi (Ao Nang and Railay) suits couples who want cliffs and sunsets, Koh Lanta is quiet, and Koh Samui is the resort island on the Gulf side. From December to February the Andaman islands are the drier choice; for April and May, Koh Samui is usually better.
Is Phuket or Krabi better for couples?
Phuket is better if you want convenience, more hotels and nightlife, and easy day trips. Krabi is better for a slower honeymoon in Thailand with limestone scenery, boat trips to the Hong Islands and sunset evenings at Ao Nang. Both are on the Andaman coast and share the same weather, so many couples split their stay between them.
What is the best month for a Thailand honeymoon?
February is the driest month on both Thai coasts according to TMD's long-term normals, so a Magh or Falgun honeymoon has the widest choice. For a Mangsir wedding, December on the Andaman side (Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi) is a good fit. For April and May, choose Koh Samui on the Gulf side.
Is Thailand rainy in November?
Yes, in the south November is still a wet month. On Thailand's Gulf coast, including Koh Samui, it is the wettest month of the year, with about 361 mm of rain in a normal year. The Andaman side, including Phuket and Krabi, gets about 193 mm and dries out further in December. Bangkok and the north are drier by then.
How many days are enough for a Thailand honeymoon?
Six to ten nights is enough for most couples. Six or seven nights covers one night in Bangkok and one island base. Eight to ten nights allows a split stay on two islands or a Chiang Mai add-on. Keep each base to at least three nights so the honeymoon is not spent on transfers.
Is Koh Samui good in December?
December is one of Koh Samui's wettest months. TMD's normals for Thailand's southern east coast show about 296 mm of rain over roughly 13 days, and the Ang Thong marine park near Samui closed from 1 November to 15 December in 2025, so check the 2026 notice. For a December honeymoon, Phuket or Krabi is usually the better choice; Samui is best from February to April.
Is Thailand good for vegetarian couples?
Yes, with clear communication. Many Thai dishes use fish sauce or seafood pastes, so ask for no fish sauce and no egg if needed. Look for yellow "je" flags, which mark vegetarian food in places such as Bangkok's Chinatown, and use Bangkok's vegetarian and vegan restaurants. Resorts in Thailand can plan vegetarian meals if you tell them before arrival.
