Prices checked: 1 Oct 2026. Package prices are Gomayu's live "from" prices on that date, per person, for a group of 3 to 7 travellers. Exchange rates used: Nepal Rastra Bank selling rate on 1 Oct 2026, 1 Chinese yuan (CNY) = NRs 22.92 and 1 US dollar = NRs 153.64. Flight fares change every day, so treat the flight ranges as a guide, not a quote.
This guide is for flying to China. The Rasuwagadhi–Kerung road crossing has been shut since the 26 August 2026 flood, and all our China tours are priced with flights from Kathmandu.

The Zhangjiajie Tour, Chongqing and the Yangtze Tour and Yunnan: Kunming, Dali and Lijiang Tour are priced on request for your dates and group. You can compare all ten side by side on our China packages page.
The "from" price is for a group of 3 to 7 travellers. Smaller and larger groups pay a different rate per person. Here is how it works on the Beijing and Shanghai Tour:
| Group size | Price per person |
|---|---|
| 2 travellers | NRs 2,17,000 |
| 3 to 7 travellers | NRs 2,11,000 |
| 8 to 13 travellers | NRs 2,05,000 |
| 14 or more travellers | NRs 1,98,000 |
The gap is much wider on the 5-day city tours. On the Beijing City Tour, 2 travellers pay NRs 1,56,000 each, 3 to 7 pay NRs 1,18,000, and 14 or more pay NRs 78,500. A couple travelling alone should budget for the 2-person rate.
How much is a flight from Kathmandu to China?
A return economy ticket from Kathmandu to Beijing costs about NRs 63,000 to 92,200 (US$410 to 600) for most dates. On 1 Oct 2026, Trip.com showed Kathmandu to Beijing return fares from US$407 for November dates and Expedia from US$456. KAYAK's typical return fares were US$403 to 512 to Shanghai and US$448 to 589 to Guangzhou. The upper end of our range allows for festival and peak dates.
- Kathmandu to Chengdu: non-stop with Air China and Sichuan Airlines, about 3 hours. This is the shortest hop into China and a common connection to Beijing.
- Kathmandu to Guangzhou: non-stop with China Southern, about 4 to 4.5 hours.
- Kathmandu to Shanghai: Himalaya Airlines resumed non-stop flights to Shanghai Pudong on 28 September 2026, twice a week (Kathmandu departures on Monday and Friday), about 5 hours 20 minutes in the air.
- Kathmandu to Beijing: no non-stop flight. You connect in Chengdu, Guangzhou or Kunming, usually 9 hours or more in total.
For the 7-day Beijing and Shanghai Tour, an open-jaw ticket (into Beijing, home from Shanghai) can use the new direct Shanghai flight; we price both patterns when we quote. Seats for Dashain, Tihar and the winter school holidays sell first, so book early.
How much is the China visa for Nepali passport holders?
Nepali passport holders need a China tourist visa (L visa) before they fly. The Chinese government visa fee has been waived for Nepali citizens since 1 May 2024. What you pay is the visa centre's service charge and our handling fee: NRs 7,000 in total including 13% VAT, as listed on our visa page on 1 Oct 2026. Rates can change without notice, so we confirm the amount when we file.
- How it works: the form starts online, then your original passport is submitted at the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre, 1st Floor, Rising Mall, Kamaladi, Kathmandu. The visa is a sticker in your passport.
- How long it takes: about 12 to 15 working days end to end. Apply 3 to 4 weeks before you travel, and earlier for Dashain and Tihar.
- Stay: usually single entry, up to 30 days, to be used within about 90 days of issue.
- Money in the bank: a 4-month bank statement with at least NRs 3,00,000. This is proof of funds, not a cost.
- Other documents: passport valid 6 months or more, a 33 x 48 mm white-background photo, return flights, hotel booking and a cover letter.
Fingerprinting at the visa centre is waived until 31 December 2026 for stays of 180 days or less, so we can submit your passport for you. Full process: China visa for Nepali citizens.
How much pocket money do you need per day in China?
Plan on CNY 60 to 190 per person per day (about NRs 1,375 to 4,355) on top of a Gomayu package. Hotels, breakfast, transfers and the sightseeing in your itinerary are already paid, so this covers the rest.
| Daily item | CNY | NRs (at 22.92) |
|---|---|---|
| Two simple meals (lunch and dinner) | 40 to 100 | 917 to 2,292 |
| Water, coffee and snacks | 10 to 40 | 229 to 917 |
| Metro, taxi or DiDi rides on your own | 10 to 50 | 229 to 1,146 |
| Per day | 60 to 190 | 1,375 to 4,355 |
| Tourist SIM, once per trip (7 days) | 98 to 128 | 2,246 to 2,934 |
Sources: Numbeo's Beijing prices (updated 25 Sep 2026) put an inexpensive restaurant meal at CNY 20 to 50, a metro ticket at CNY 3 to 5 and a taxi start at CNY 13. The SIM range is China Unicom and China Mobile 7-day tourist plans listed by China Survival Kit; you register with your passport. Google, WhatsApp and Facebook are blocked on local Chinese networks; a roaming eSIM usually avoids this.
Paying in China: most shops and taxis expect Alipay or WeChat Pay. Both accept international Visa and Mastercard cards; payments of CNY 200 or less carry no fee, and above that a 3% fee applies to the whole amount. A Nepali debit card for local use will not link, so ask your bank for an international (dollar) card and carry some yuan as a back-up. More detail: Is China expensive?
Budget, comfort and premium: three sample trips
All per person, using the same flight, visa and pocket-money ranges as above.
| Style | Package | Package price | Estimated total with flights, visa and pocket money |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | Shanghai City Tour, 5 days | From NRs 1,04,500 | About NRs 1,82,500 to 2,14,900 |
| Comfort | Beijing and Shanghai Tour, 7 days | From NRs 2,11,000 | About NRs 2,92,900 to 3,43,600 |
| Premium | China Holiday Package, 10 days, 5-star hotels | From NRs 2,88,500 | About NRs 3,74,500 to 4,34,200, plus two domestic flights |
The Shanghai figure uses KAYAK's typical Shanghai fare (NRs 61,900 to 78,700). The 10-day figure uses 10 days of pocket money (NRs 16,000 to 46,500); its Xi'an to Guilin and Guilin to Shanghai flights are priced on your dates.
Is 2 lakh enough for a China trip from Nepal?
Yes, for a 5-day trip, if you travel in a group of 3 to 7 and get a good fare. NRs 2 lakh covers the Shanghai City Tour: NRs 1,04,500 package plus NRs 61,900 flight plus NRs 7,000 visa charges plus NRs 9,100 pocket money comes to NRs 1,82,500. The 5-day Beijing trip starts at NRs 1,97,100, which is only just inside 2 lakh.
For a couple travelling alone, 2 lakh each is not enough: the 2-person rate on the Shanghai City Tour is NRs 1,47,500, so the same trip starts at about NRs 2,25,500 each. For 7 days, budget about NRs 2,92,900 to 3,43,600 per person. NRs 1 lakh does not cover the flight and package together for any China tour we sell.
What is the price of a 7-day China tour package from Nepal, including flights?
A 7-day China tour from Nepal including flights costs about NRs 2,92,900 to 3,43,600 per person on our Beijing and Shanghai Tour, including the visa service charges. The package is from NRs 2,11,000; the rest is the Kathmandu flight, NRs 7,000 for the visa and seven days of pocket money, as shown in the first table.

How can you spend less on a China trip from Nepal?
- Travel as a group of 3 or more. On the Beijing City Tour the price drops from NRs 1,56,000 each for 2 people to NRs 1,18,000 each for 3 to 7.
- Fly direct where you can. Chengdu, Guangzhou and Shanghai have non-stop flights from Kathmandu.
- Avoid Chinese holiday weeks. China's National Day "Golden Week" (1 to 7 October) and the Chinese New Year period bring crowds and higher hotel rates. See the best time to visit China.
- Keep card payments under CNY 200 where you can. Above that, Alipay and WeChat Pay add 3% on a foreign card.
What does the Gomayu price include and exclude?
On the Beijing and Shanghai Tour, the price includes airport pickup and drop-off, 3 or 4-star hotels, daily breakfast and the dinners named in the itinerary, the Beijing to Shanghai bullet train, all transfers in the itinerary, an English-speaking local guide, entry fees for the places in the itinerary, and Tiananmen and Forbidden City reservations made for you.
It excludes international flights, the China visa service charges, travel and medical insurance, lunch unless stated, drinks and personal expenses, Zhujiajiao garden tickets and boat ride, optional activities, and tips. Inclusions differ by tour: the Shanghai, Qingdao and Beijing Tour, for example, excludes the Great Wall cable car and toboggan (at Mutianyu the cable car is CNY 140 return).
Flying from abroad? If you are a Nepali living in the Gulf, Malaysia, Japan, Korea or Australia, your flight cost will differ from a Kathmandu fare and you usually apply for the China visa where you live, but the land package price stays the same; tell us your departure city.
